What Makes A Great Travel Film?

02:25
Here at World Nomads, we watch a LOT of travel films. But what makes a really good travel film? Here are a few things we suggest considering: 1.) Ask yourself, "What kind of story am I telling?" Everything you shoot and include in your film should support this. 2.) Focus on the moments of people interacting with each other, not just the pretty landscapes. 3.) You need really good audio. Bad audio can destroy a good film. 4.) Keep things snappy and to the point. A well-paced story will keep web-based audiences entertained and engaged. Now these guidelines are merely that. Guidelines. But we hope that this gives you a little insight into what kind of travel films work for us at World Nomads. Inspired yet? Check out the advance from filmmaker and mentor Brian Rapsey in his blog 'Travel Filmmaking: Are You Doing It Right?' Mardi Gras traditions with The Red Flame Hunters | Footprints Network

07:55
World Nomads went to New Orleans in search of finding the real Mardi Gras experience, and discovered a story that goes far beyond the colourful head-dresses and the flamboyant parades. The Red Flame Hunters are a group of African American youth from the 7th Ward led by the inspirational Edward Buckner from the Original Big 7 Cultural Heritage Division. Ed’s mission is to pass on the tradition and values to the next generation of Mardi Gras Indians, while at the same time empowering the kids to rise above the many challenges they face in their community. The tribe spent months preparing, sewing and building their incredible costumes in anticipation for the parade. But when Mardi Gras day came closer, the dreaded rain threatened to wash them out. The Red Flame Hunters remained resilient, and forged on to the iconic Claiborne Overpass for an exciting face-off with other Mardi Gras Indian tribes, an exchange that Ed said made all the hard work pay off. If you want to help support the next generation of Mardi Gras Indians, go to the Red Flame Hunters GoFundMe page here: https://www.gofundme.com/redflame When you buy travel insurance with World Nomads you can also donate to the Red Flame Hunters by making a micro-donation through Footprints: https://bit.ly/1BKjVUu ---- Credits: Directed by Brian Rapsey Additional direction by Jesse Chard Filmed and edited by Brian Rapsey Additional filming by Andrés Brenner and Jesse Chard Produced by Alicia Crosariol and Jesse Chard for WorldNomads.com

Going to Thailand? Click the link below for the free World Nomads Thailand Survival Guide! It's ridiculously awesome, and everything you need to know before you go! https://bit.ly/1G8xzEe The Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan, Thailand has attracted its fair share of controversy in recent years, so we decided to send Jesse Perez from the World Nomads Travel Safety Hub to this party paradise to see if it was as dangerous as the mainstream media makes out (it was a purely professional trip, we promise!) In his film, 'Surviving The Full Moon Party' Jesse experiences all the thrills and spills of this epic event - the notorious fire-rope, the crazy buckets, the cracked skulls and bandaged bodies, and the unbridled hedonism of 20,000 free-spirited nomads - and lives to tell the tale. Do you think you could handle the heat? Travel Namibia - Meeting the Himba Tribe

05:51
What happens when a traveler encounters the Himba tribe in Namibia? Earlier this year, Sussan Mourad travelled with the World Nomads film crew to explore Namibia. The highlight of the trip was the day spent visiting a nomadic Himba tribe deep in the heart of Namibia. While apprehensive at first, Sussan managed to connect with the women of the tribe despite language and cultural barriers. After speaking extensively about the Himba women's unique beauty regime of applying ochre and fat to their skin, Sussan asks if she too can try out the treatment. Watch as Sussan is transformed from traveller to tribal woman -- and see how the women of the tribe react to her new look. *Note: Being invited into a Himba village and being dressed like a Himba woman is not a common occurrence in Namibia and certainly is not a tourist attraction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits: Produced by Alicia Smith Directed by Jesse Chard and Peter Teys. Cinematography by Peter Teys. Edited by Jesse Chard.
