The Cloister Hotel Sea Island Georgia

04:09
Three years in the making, the new Cloister replaces that landmark original, built in 1928. According to the company, the old hotel was never intended to be more than a "friendly little inn" to house prospective real estate investors on the island. But during its surprisingly long life the hotel hosted presidents, kings and queens and all other manner of celebrities, and even carried a Mobil five-star rating for a time. The fourth-generation in his family to operate The Cloister on Sea Island, Jones, who is chairman and chief executive officer of Sea Island Co., is said to have had a hand in virtually every detail of the multi-million dollar masterpiece, from the selection of paintings of marsh and live oaks and period tableaux scattered throughout the 100-room hotel to the choice of wood trim -- mostly heart pine and pecky cypress -- that give the place its warm, long-lived-in feel. An agreement granting Architectural Digest magazine first rights to interior photography led the company to prohibit local news photographers from capturing the inside decor during a media tour of the hotel Thursday. As the September issue of the magazine will undoubtedly show, though, everything about The Cloister on Sea Island is grand in scale, from the richly upholstered overstuffed chairs and high-backed love seats to the dinner-plate sized hydrangea blossoms nestled in decorative planters big enough to hold several small children. The custom-made chandeliers lighting the main lobby with its three-story atrium measure 21 feet in height and weigh 1,000 pounds apiece. The subterranean wine cellar holds up to 24,000 bottles. Its rough-hewn, dark wood dining table seats 26 people. Tipton said the stone tile and marble floors are covered by no less than 670 original rugs "hand-woven in 120 villages throughout Turkey over the last couple of years." While the Mediterranean theme is predominant throughout the hotel with its grand staircase of unpolished marble and its stucco arches, the decor of individual public rooms creates different moods. The airy Georgian dining room with its pink-and-green florals and tasseled upholstery is a flirty feminine counterpart to the swarthy Georgian Lounge, walled with ebony colored wood. It is there that guests may retire after dinner to partake of the lounge's "signature drink" -- a flaming coffee made with Maker's Mark bourbon whisky. The decor of the Club Rooms is a marked break with tradition. Whereas the old Club Rooms were dark and shadowy, the new Club Rooms evoke the feel of the "roaring '20s" with a parquet dance floor illuminated by gargantuan crystal chandeliers hanging from an elaborately carved glazed-plaster ceiling that evokes images of the Chateau de Versailles, the sparkling 17th century palace built by France's "Sun King," Louis XIV. The 30 suites of the main hotel building include heated bathroom floors, 45-inch LCD televisions, 24-hour butler service (also available in the 70 rooms of the hotel's north and south wings), and feather-topped beds dressed in Italian bedding and 500 thread-count sheets. The hotel is part of a $350 million construction effort that includes a new eight-court tennis center, a new Beach Club, a new 65,000-square-foot spa and an on-site chapel.

Caribbean

02:41
The Caribbean is a region consisting of the Caribbean Sea, its islands (most of which enclose the sea), and the surrounding coasts. The region is located southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and Northern America, east of Central America, and to the north of South America. Situated largely on the Caribbean Plate, the region comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. These islands, called the West Indies, generally form island arcs that delineate the eastern and northern edges of the Caribbean Sea. These islands are called the West Indies because when Christopher Columbus landed here in 1492 he believed that he had reached the Indies (in Asia). The region consists of the Antilles, divided into the larger Greater Antilles which bound the sea on the north and the Lesser Antilles on the south and east (including the Leeward Antilles), and the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, which are in fact in the Atlantic Ocean north of Cuba, not in the Caribbean Sea. Geo-politically, the West Indies are usually reckoned as a sub-region of North America and are organized into 27 territories including sovereign states, overseas departments, and dependencies. At one time, there was a short-lived country called the Federation of the West Indies composed of ten English-speaking Caribbean territories, all of which were then UK dependencies. The region takes its name from that of the Carib, an ethnic group present in the Lesser Antilles and parts of adjacent South America at the time of European contact. In the English-speaking world, someone from the Caribbean is usually referred to as a "West Indian," although the phrase "Caribbean person" is sometimes used. ( source Wikipedia )

An Unforgettable Holiday | FSA, Action

05:29
A project organized by friends. -- It was fun! It was warm! It was exciting and full of new experiences. Some of the children had never been to the sea and watching them play in the water for the first time was a heart-warming moment. There were smiles on everyones faces and the sound of giggles and laughter, as friends, new and old, enjoyed the sand and surf.

Akyaka, Turkey

09:07
Akyaka is set on a lovely sheltered sandy bay, with safe swimming in hot-tub warm water (well almost!) Fringed by palm trees, the beach has a wonderfully tropical feel, but the village of Akyaka itself is very much traditional Turkey. Many houses here are built from pine in a distinctive octagonal design, with white washed walls and hand carved ceilings and balconies. At one end of Akyakas bay, the azure Mediterranean is joined by the crystal waters of the River Azmak and along the banks youll find fish restaurants serving fresh river trout with a flavour that puts the farmed supermarket rainbows to shame. You cant get way from the river in Akyaka, as where the current flows into the sea theres also a jetty where alongside those boats busy fishing, others are dressed to take visitors round to the local bays and offshore islands.

Betty's Holiday Potato Yeast Rolls

10:16
Betty demonstrates how to make her light and luscious Holiday Potato Yeast Rolls. These rolls are perfect for a fancy dinner, and they are the easiest to make that I have run across. There is no need to knead them! I have used this as my go-to recipe for 30 years. I think you will enjoy them! Holiday Potato Yeast Rolls 2 packages active dry yeast ½ cup warm water (105 - 115 degrees) 1 ½ cups warm milk (105 - 115 degrees) ¾ cup instant potato flakes ½ cup butter or margarine, softened ½ cup sugar ½ to 1 teaspoon salt (I used 1 teaspoon in the video, but I think the rolls would have been better with less.) 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten About 4 ½ flour, divided (You may use all purpose or self-rising flour. If you use self-rising flour, you should reduce the salt to ½ teaspoon.) 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted (for brushing tops of rolls) Dissolve yeast in ½ cup warm water and let stand 5 minutes. In a large bowl, combine yeast mixture, 1 ½ cups warm milk, ¾ cup potato flakes, ½ cup butter, ½ cup sugar, and ½ teaspoon salt. Mix well. Stir in 2 slightly beaten egg yolks and ½ cup flour. Cover with a towel, plastic wrap, or aluminum foil, and let rise in a warm place, free from drafts for 30 minutes. (Batter will look spongy.) Gradually stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place 1 hour, or until dough is doubled in bulk. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly-floured surface, and roll out to ¼-inch to 3/8-inch thickness. Cut into 2 ½-inch circles. Brush with melted butter. Make a crease across each circle, and fold over to make the rolls into Parkerhouse-style. Gently press edges to seal. Place on greased cookie sheets, and let rise in a warm place 20 minutes, or until dough is doubled in bulk. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. This makes 4 dozen Parkerhouse rolls. One wonderful thing about this roll recipe is that you can do most of the work ahead. When you have your rolls shaped and placed in pans, you may cover and refrigerate or freeze them for later use. All you have to do is get them out of the refrigerator or freezer, let them come to room temperature, and then let them rise for 20 minutes before baking. They are every bit as good as freshly made rolls! I hope you will add these lovely rolls to your holiday table. You (and your guests) will love them! Charles Trénet's 'La Mer' from "Mr. Bean's Holiday"

02:56
Climax of the film 'Mr. Bean's Holiday', where the entire cast join in miming the magnificent 'La Mer' by Charles Trénet on the beach at Cannes. *** UPDATE: There is now an HD version at: https://youtu.be/0Iykn4mBT9U *** An added note for elucidation: This is the original. Charles Trénet wrote both music & lyrics to 'La Mer' and it was recorded by him in 1946. There have been several interpretations in French and other languages. The following excerpt is from the Wikipedia entry for 'La Mer' (the song) "English lyrics, unrelated to the French lyrics, were later written by Jack Lawrence and entitled 'Beyond the Sea'. The English version has been recorded by many artists, including Benny Goodman, Mantovani, Roger Williams and Gisele MacKenzie, but Bobby Darin's version released in 1959 is the best known by many, reaching #6 on the Billboard Hot 100.” Old Fart Films on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/OldFartFilms

All Inclusive Cabo San Lucas Travel Video

03:25
http://travelbugvideo.webs.com All Inclusive Cabo San Lucas Travel Video Los Cabos. Two small and very different towns -- San José del Cabo to the northeast, Cabo San Lucas at the southern tip -- bracket a twenty-mile seacoast 'Corridor,' home to a range of elegant hotels, and to a collection championship golf courses. Los Cabos is at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Approaching by air across the Sea of Cortés (which separates the Baja from the rest of Mexico) the visitor first sees contrast: the craggy peaks of the Sierra de la Laguna form a backdrop to miles of golden beach, blue water and dramatic red rock formations; saguaro cactus, palms and cultivated gardens cover the pale gold desert landscape. Cabo San Lucas is best identified by the image of the world famous rock arch formation "El Arco" where the Pacific meets the warm water of the Sea of Cortes. The Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau launched their new and improved consumer website, www.visitloscabos.travel. The website, with a fresh, new face and an array of helpful features, will prove to be a great resource for travelers planning a trip to Los Cabos. Our goal with the launch of the enhanced consumer website is to offer travelers important, valuable information about our destination as well as provide a convenient resource for travel planning, said Gonzalo Franyutti, president of the Los Cabos Convention & Visitors Bureau. Visitors to the website can enjoy features such as My Los Cabos Planner, where users can plan, email and print their prospective vacation ideas and itinerary without leaving the comfort of their home. The new Book Your Trip feature allows travelers to book their entire trip to Los Cabos directly from the website. From flights to hotels to rental cars, a dream vacation to Lands End is only a click away. A Where to Stay section offers travelers the ability to overview a variety of accommodations from luxury properties and expansive hotels to all-inclusive resorts and small, quaint hideaways. The extensive What to Do section highlights activities available, from golf to fishing, spas to dining. Visitors to the site can also use maps to find out where each hotel, golf course, spa, restaurant, fishing fleet and more are located.

Nigella Lawson - Chocolate Cherry Trifle

04:56
Dec. 13: Celebrity cookbook author Nigella Lawson share some dreamy dessert ideas for the holidays with the "Today" show's Ann Curry. 041213 Chocolate Cherry Trifle Nigella Lawson Serves 16 INGREDIENTS • 2 chocolate pound cakes (each approx. 12 ounces) • 1/2 cup black cherry jam • 1/2 cup cherry brandy • 2 cups bottled or canned sour cherries, drained For the custard • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, minimum 70% cocoa solids • 1-1/3 cups plus 1 tablespoon milk • 1-1/3 cups plus 1 tablespoon heavy cream • 8 egg yolks • 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon superfine sugar • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa For the topping • 3 cups heavy cream • 1 ounce bittersweet chocolate, as before DIRECTIONS Slice the chocolate loaves or cake and make jam sandwiches with the cherry jam. Layer into the bottom of a large trifle bowl. Pour over the cherry brandy so that the cake soaks it up, and then tip in the drained cherries. Cover with plastic wrap and leave to macerate while you make the custard. Chop up the chocolate and melt it; I do this on low to medium heat in the microwave, checking after 2 minutes, though it will probably need 4. Or you can stick the bowl over a pan of gently simmering water. Once the chocolates melted, leave to one side while you get on with the custard proper. Warm the milk and cream in a saucepan, and whisk the yolks, sugar and cocoa in a large bowl. Pour the warm milk and cream into the bowl, whisking it into the yolks and sugar mixture. Stir in the melted chocolate, scraping the sides well with a rubber spatula to get all of it in, and pour the custard back into the rinsed saucepan. Cook over a medium heat until the custard thickens, stirring all the time. Make sure it doesnt boil, as it will split and curdle. Keep a sink full of cold water so that if you get scared you can plunge the custard pan into the cold water and whisk like mad, which will avert possible crisis. The custard will get darker as it cooks and the flecks of chocolate will melt once the custard has thickened. And you do need this thick, so dont panic so much that you stop cooking while its still runny. Admittedly, it carries on thickening as it cools and then when its chilling in the fridge. Once its ready, pour into a bowl to cool and cover the top of the custard with plastic wrap to stop it forming a skin. When the custard is cold, pour and scrape it over the chocolate cake layer in the trifle bowl, and leave in the fridge to set, covered in plastic wrap, overnight. When you are ready to decorate, whip the cream for the topping softly and spread it gently over the layer of custard. Grate the chocolate over the top. Let people fall upon it with greed and gratitude. They will go home happy.

Hotel Colony Sea Isle of Youth Cuba

00:46
A little film taken whilst paddling in the sea by the hotel. Water so warm and clear, and by the pier lots of things to see if snorkelling. Saw some big star fish too! You can see that the pier was destroyed by the hurricanes. If you go diving now, you just go to the marina 5 mins down the road and get the boat from there. More people need to come to the hotel and to the island to get investment back in to the island to finance more repairs - such a wonderful place and people ... If you're staying in Neuva Gerona, stay in a casa in the centre ... is worth it.

How to Make Braided Easter Bread

02:44
Watch more Easter Recipes videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/133798-How-to-Make-Braided-Easter-Bread This pretty Easter bread just looks complicated; it’s actually a cinch to make! Step 1: Prepare yeast Dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Step 2: Combine milk, butter, sugar Heat the milk on low until almost simmering, and then stir in one-quarter stick of butter until melted. Turn off the heat. Pour the sugar and salt into a mixing bowl, and then pour in the milk and melted butter mixture, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Step 3: Add flour, yeast, eggs When the mixture has cooled to lukewarm, stir in a cup of flour and beat with the electric mixer or by hand until smooth. Add the dissolved yeast and two raw eggs, and beat until smooth. Then, add the flour, a half-cup at a time, until you have a soft dough. Step 4: Knead the dough Flour your hands. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, and knead it for about 15 minutes, until it's satiny. Step 5: Let dough rise Butter a large bowl. Shape the dough into a ball, put it in the bowl, and brush the dough with melted butter. Cover the bowl with a non-terry cloth kitchen towel and place it in a warm area that is free of drafts. Let it rise until it doubles, about two to three hours. Step 6: Shape the loaf Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Punch the dough down in the bowl; then let it rest for 10 minutes. Remove it from the bowl, and divide it into three pieces. Roll them into strips about 12 inches long, and form a loose braid. Transfer the loaf to the baking sheet, and press the ends together to form a circle. Step 7: Add eggs Nestle four whole, unshelled eggs into the braid at evenly-spaced intervals. You can use plain white eggs or ones dyed with food coloring, and they can be raw or hard-boiled. Tip The eggs are safe to eat after baking only if you keep the bread in the refrigerator after baking. Step 8: Finish and bake Sprinkle the top of the loaf with almonds, if using. Beat one egg with a tablespoon of water. Brush the top of the bread with the egg wash. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool the bread before eating. Did You Know? Easter bread is traditionally baked three days before the holiday, on Holy Thursday.

Betty's Version of Merrick Inn's New Potato Casserole

10:26
Betty demonstrates how to make her version of Merrick Inn's New Potato Casserole. This is one of the side dishes I had when Rick and I celebrated my birthday at Merrick Inn, and I liked it so well that I put together a casserole that tastes very much the same. I think you will *love* it! Betty's Version of Merrick Inn's New Potato Casserole 2 pounds red-skinned new potatoes (about 1 inch to 1 ½ inches in diameter), washed (You may peel these, if you don't like potato skins.) 1 tablespoon salt (for cooking potatoes) ½ medium onion, chopped 1 tablespoon butter, melted (for sautéing onion) 3 tablespoons butter, melted (for cheese sauce) ¼ cup flour 1 cup milk 10.75-oz. can condensed cream of celery soup (You may use any cream soup.) ¼ teaspoon salt 2 cups finely-shredded Cheddar cheese Slice each new potato of the 2 pounds of new potatoes into two equal parts. Place them in a medium to large-sized pot, and cover them with water. Add 1 tablespoon salt, and bring them to a full boil. When they are boiling, reduce the heat, and let them cook until almost done. I cooked mine for 15 minutes, testing with a fork occasionally, until they were tender, but still holding their shape. Remove potatoes from heat, and drain through a colander. Immediately run some cold water over the potatoes, to cool them to the point where you can cut them into cubes. (They will still be very warm.) Meanwhile, place ½ chopped medium onion into a small skillet with 1 tablespoon melted butter, and sauté until clear. While the onion is sautéing, begin your cheese sauce. In a medium saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons butter, and remove from heat. Add ¼ cup flour, and stir until smooth. (Its okay if there are a few lumps—they will work themselves out.) Add 1 cup milk, a 10.75 oz. can of condensed cream of celery soup, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Place over low heat, and stir constantly until the sauce is smooth and thickened. Remove from heat, and stir in 2 cups finely shredded cheddar cheese. Set aside, while you prepare your cooked and slightly cooled potatoes. On a cutting board, cut your cooked potatoes into cubes, about ½-inch on a side. Place them back in the pan they were cooked in, and pour your cheese sauce over the potato cubes. Fold the sauce and potato cubes together, until combined, keeping the cubes intact. Pour the new potato casserole into a greased 13-inch by 9-inch by 2 inch baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Turn your oven to broil and broil for 1 minute to brown off the top. Remove from oven, and serve immediately. Guaranteed delicious!!!! Mauritius lies in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, approximately 3,000 kilometres off the east coast of Africa. The population of Mauritius is just over 1 million and consists of Muslims, Hindus, Chinese, Creoles and Europeans creating a colourful and harmonious blend of cultures. The island is a warm and welcoming paradise with its average daily temperature at 25°c and rarely under 13°c at night. The sunny season is to be enjoyed all year round with highest temperatures from November to April. Apart from the south coast, Mauritius is surrounded by coral reefs making it an enticing playground for divers and water sports enthusiasts alike. Who should go to Mauritius? In our opinion everybody. That is of course if you enjoy sun, sea, sand, relaxation, excellent & diverse cuisine, beautiful scenery, a first class hotel set within exquisite surroundings and friendly welcoming smiles. Mauritius has a reputation for being a Honeymoon haven. But you dont have to be a honeymooner to realise that Mauritius has that very special something that will make your stay the experience of a lifetime.

VISIT US AT http://www.ladiesofthehouse.org to suggest an episode topic or learn more from the ladies! Questions? Comments? Email June at [email protected]! Our bread was inspired by the recipe at: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Mama-Ds-Italian-Bread/Detail.aspx Ingredients: 1 tablespoon active dry yeast 1 teaspoon sugar several cups warm water 1 tablespoon salt 8-9 cups flour Add the sugar and yeast to the warm water and let proof for up to 15 minutes. Stir in 4 cups of flour and beat (with a fork?) until smooth. Cover and let rest for 15 minutes. Beat in the salt and then add enough remaining flour to make a stiff dough (about a cup). Knead until the the dough is as soft and smooth as a bambino's behind. Place under plastic wrap and let rise for 30-45 minutes. Once risen, knead and divide into two - add spices and shape as desired (footballish or braided) Place under cloth, and let rise 30-45 minutes. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and grease a cookie sheet while the dough is rising. Place the bread on the cookie sheets. Mist with water and place in a preheated 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) oven 30-40 minutes. Bread is done when golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. EAT IT.

Medicanes - Mediterranean Hurricane Celeno 1995 - ciclone mediterraneo

00:32
Uragano Mediterraneo - Mediterranean Hurricane Celeno 14-17 January 1995 CAT 1 Hurricane. Thanks images loop EUMETSAT. The storm was characterized by well-defined outflow, an eye, an upper level anticyclone, and a weather ship report of 136 km/h, 37.8 m/s (74 knots, 85 mph) winds, equivalent in strength to a Category 1 Hurricane, and 975 hpa. The system continued to the southwest and quickly weakened, making landfall with tropical storm intensity on northern Libya as a convectionless vortex on the 17th. It dissipated the next day. Tropical cyclones like Vince, Karl, Epsilon and, above all, the recent tropical storm Grace showed a process of formation absolutely identical to that of many Medicanes. This process is called Tropical Transition and allows extratropical cyclones with cold core to become tropical cyclones with warm core, even at subtropical/temperate latitudes and over water of less than 20 °c.
