5 EXTREMELY CREEPY Deep Sea Creatures

03:00
Here are 5 Extremely Creepy Deep Sea Creatures Click Here To Subscribe! http://bit.ly/EliteFacts List : 5. The Ningen This creature from the depths of the ocean may be just about the creepiest thing you could ever see. The reason for this, is that it looks just like a human even having strange limbs that resemble arms and legs. The name Ningen is actually human in Japanese. However, there is no need to panic and worry that the world will be taken over by strange alien sea creatures, because there has never been any official sightings of this little beastie and general opinion is that it’s just a freaky urban myth much like the mermaid. 4. Mantis Shrimp This rainbow hued little creature is not as nice as it looks. It is actually extremely clever and horribly dangerous. One of its main talents is being able to see colours that far surpass even the furthest imagination of humans. As well as, it is an efficient killing machine, it has two appendages at the front of its body which can lash out so powerfully that they cause the water surrounding the creature to reach boiling point! So, even the clever prey that have managed to avoid the physical attack will be rendered defenceless by the boiling water. 3. Pelican Eel Eel’s in general are quite creepy looking, but this one has taken it to another level. This slippery character is basically just a huge mouth with a tail attached. The mouth itself is absolutely terrifying, it unhinges so that its owner can catch prey that is twice its size. The chosen prey is then stored in a pouch within the lower jaw. However, the tail can be just as weird as it possesses a small light producing organ that is called a photophore and this gives off an eerie pink glow. 2. Humpback Anglerfish The female of this species most certainly has a licence to kill. She uses her feminine charm which comes in the form of a bioluminescent lure dangling over her forehead to draw in prey that she can destroy with her rows of ferocious teeth. 1. Predatory Tunicate This is basically a Venus Fly Trap that lives underwater. They are almost completely translucent and they stick themselves to the sea floor and wait patiently for a tasty meal to come along. Once an unsuspecting critter falls for the trap the creatures snap their hoods shut until they’ve had their fill. 10 Most Mysterious Unidentified Creatures Found

top 10 most bizarre animals that remain a mystery to the world. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Other Videos You Might Like 10 Mysterious Photos That Remain Unexplained https://youtu.be/f-5FmmOTNlk Large Animals You've Never Seen Before https://youtu.be/m95aB5nTEmk Description: What would you do if you were walking on the beach and saw the carcass of an animal that you didn’t know existed? Would you call animal control? The local university? Take a picture? There are a plethora of ways that we deal with situations where we’re unsure of what to do. Usually we go to the experts, assuming they have the answers. Zoologists have been working tirelessly for countless years seeking and identifying as many animals and creatures as they possibly can. But with how big and vast our planet Earth is, it is difficult to declare that every animal has been found. There’s an entire world in the ocean alone down in the murkiest depths of the water. So when a new creature is discovered, the media might go crazy in trying to identify it. This is where mass hysteria and fear tends to take over. Many of the creatures on this list have only been seen by a few people, just enough to create a legend. After the sighting is recorded by the media and/or posted online, other people see the legends and then vow to have their own encounter with the mysterious creature in question. Or, there are other people who just downright lie, therefore perpetuating the legend and lies, and not contributing to zoology or science, but instead myth and legend. Recently, DNA has reportedly been found that confirms the existence of the infamous Big Foot, the creature that walks on two legs and seems to be related to man. Big Foot sightings have been occurring for over a century, but physical proof of the creature’s existence has never been found. Legends, myths, and stories flood the internet with photos of bad quality, with new additions being added online every day. Almost everyone who lives in the mountains will profess that some Big Foot creature exists. Then there is also the Loch Ness monster and the Lake Michigan Monster, two creatures that are dinosaur-like that live in the depths of the lakes. People will flock to the coastlines of these lakes with cameras and camcorders in hopes of capturing the million dollar shot and be credited for finally confirming the existence of Nessie. What brings these monsters together is the fact that they have only been seen, but there has been no physical evidence to confirm nor deny their existence. Because of this, experts can’t make a decision one way or another. But the creatures on this list are the complete opposite. They have been found, but they haven’t been identified. This video might bring about some nightmares, thus perpetuating the mystical life that these creatures may have lived. As stated earlier, as large as our world is, it is impossible to say that we have found every creature on this planet. These new discoveries are bringing scientists at a head as they try to make sense of what has been discovered. When the experts don’t know what’s going on, that is when the public will panic and start taking matters into their own hands when it comes to these mysterious creatures. 5 INSANELY CREEPY Deep Sea Creatures

02:39
Today we take a look at 5 insanely creepy deep sea creatures. From deep sea sharks that swallow their victims whole to eels that can eat animals several times their size, there are some pretty creepy deep sea creatures out there. After all, over 70% of the Earth is covered in water and humans have only explored less than 5% of it. Imagine what other amazing creatures could be lurking down there. 5 - Dragonfish Dragonfish are found at depths of nearly 2 KM. They begin their life near the surface, but eventually dragonfish become capable of producing their own light using bioluminescence, allowing them to go deeper. They also have a barbel attached to their lower jaw, used for hunting. 4 - Frilled Sharks Termed a living fossil, frilled sharks inhabit the depths of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. A frilled shark catches its prey by bending its body and lunging forward like a snake. And then proceeding to swallow its victim whole. 3 - Chimera (Ghost Shark) Not to be confused with Greek Muthology, the Chimera is a strange looking species of shark. Also known as ghost sharks, they used to reside throughout the world's oceans, but today are mostly confined to deeper water. 2 - Gulper Eel (Pelican Eel) The Gulper Eel is one of the strangest looking creatures lurking in the deep. Also known as the Pelican Eel, this strange creature is rarely seen by humans, however they are occasionally caught in fishing nets. A Gulper Eel's mouth is loosely hinged, allowing it to eat animals many times bigger that itself. 1 - Megamouth Shark The Megamouth Shark was discovered in 1976 and is an extremely rare species of deep water shark. There is still no consensus in the scientific community as to how to actually classify it. It's most distinctive feature is its gaping mouth, which it probably uses to swallow plankton and small fish. Sea creature found dating back to 80 million years old

Sea creature found dating back to 80 million years old found a group of fishermen on the Australian Marine Creature rare, dating back to 80 million years old, looks like a shark and eel, and has 300 on the age of its jaws. 10 Strangest Ocean Phenomena You Won't Believe!

04:14
Top 10 Amazing things that occur in the deep blue ocean. Creatures, and strange underwater events! Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: With water covering 70% of the Earth’s surface, it’s no wonder that oceans yield spectacular species, with scientists finding up to four new species a day, according to the World Register of Marine Species, or WoRMS. They add that there are also approximately 228,450 marine species known to scientists with some two million more multi-celled marine organisms still to be discovered. The ocean is also home to other phenomena including giant beached whales, bioluminescence – when water appears to be glowing - and the yearly migration of millions of red sea crabs on Christmas Island, stopping drivers and pedestrians in their tracks. Seahorses continue to fascinate people time and again, not only for their combination of a norse-like head with S-shaped bodies but also because of what’s seemingly a reversal of roles in the natural world i.e. the male having to do the “pushing.” Rogue waves are an amazing phenomena that could have deadly consequences too, engulfing ships and fishermen in its wake. Short-tail stingrays are also considered to be dangerous. The death of Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin, “The Crocodile Hunter,” by a sting ray brought the species to prominence in 2006 but in reality, that was a freak occurrence that happens on extremely rare occasions. Sea pens and glass squid appear to go hand in hand, although neither are what they seem. Underwater, famed French marine explorer Jacque Costeau once said “When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.” Such is the inspiration by marine biologists, sailors, and regular people alike to continue to explore life under water. Despite man’s advancements of NASA and seeking life on other planets, it’s seeing what’s under the earth’s surface where marine life will help us truly understand our human world. Mystery of the Deep: Man captured SEA CREATURE on camera in Corfu sea cave

01:40
There is no question that the sea holds mysteries and inhabitants beyond our imagination, that we are yet to encounter. But a Scottish tourist was left in shock after unwittingly capturing the image of a bizarre sea creature in his holiday snaps. Harvey Robertson, 52, was on a boat cruise with his family in Corfu when he took a number of photographs inside a sea cave. The odd creature, which resembles a type of dolphin, can be seen swimming in the water in his incredible snaps. He held the camera over the side of the boat to take pictures of the sea. But when he lifted his camera back up, Robertson later realised a mysterious creature had appeared in one of the frames. Robertson said: 'I have no idea what it could have been, I have never seen anything like it. 'I caught the picture by accident. I was in a sea cave on a small boat about 20 miles south of Albania on the west coast of Greece. 'I was trying to capture the water colour and was not looking at the water, the flash went off. I only saw the creature when looking back through my pics.' 'The creature, that has so far been unable to be identified by experts, evokes images of Greek mythology.' TOP 10 Mythical SEA MONSTERS

06:32
Check out these 10 terrifying mythical sea monsters! - Mega Top Tens ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just what is a “sea monster” anyway? Well, we’ve given ourselves a pretty broad definition to work with. Here’s the Stubby the Rocket definition: Sea Monster (noun): Any sufficiently awesome water-dwelling creature that we perceive as being monstrously cool. So, with that in mind, prepare yourself for the greatest A-Z list of sea monsters ever compiled, just below the surface of this blog. Abe Sapien (Hellboy): An icthyo sapien, transformed as the result of a strange ritual. Aquaman (DC Comics): Sovereign of the sea who can breathe underwater and can communicate with sea creatures (either in their own language or telepathically—pretty cool either way). Afanc (Welsh Mythology): A lake monster who is sort of like a crocodile, beaver or a dwarf. Bloop (Real Life): Mysterious, extremely powerful, ultra-low frequency sound detected by NOAA. No one knows where it comes from. Probably a monster. Cetus (Greek mythology/constellation): Most of the sea monsters taken out by Heracles and Perseus were referred to as “Cetus,” which could mean an extraordinarily big fish, shark or sea monster. Charybdis (The Odyssey): Basically a giant whirlpool (or monster who causes massive whirlpools) designed to screw over Odysseus. Creature from the Black Lagoon (Creature from the Black Lagoon): A Gill-Man who only wants to be left alone. Cthulhu (H.P. Lovecraft): One of the Great Old Ones. Part octopus, part human, part dragon, all badass. Watch out. Fiji Mermaid (Real life): A sideshow creation consisting of the top half of monkey and the lower half of a fish. Hydra (Greek Mythology/Real Life): The Lernaean hydra was a many-headed, serpent-like beast killed by Heracles. Also a genus of tiny, predatory, fresh-water animals with regenerative abilities. Jörmungandr (Norse Mythology): AKA, the Midgard Serpent, offspring of Loki and Angrboða and archnemesis of Thor. When he lets go of his own tail the world will end. Kappa (Japanese Folklore): A water sprite. Sometimes hairy. Kelpie (Celtic Mythology): A water horse with ghostly trappings. Sometimes appears as a beautiful woman. Not to be trusted. Koizilla (Avatar: the Last Airbender): At the end of season 1, Aang fuses with La, the Ocean Spirit to become Koizilla: the wrath of the ocean embodied in awesome fish-monster form. Kraken (Greek Mythology. Also, real life.): Sometimes referred to as the giant squid. But also a thing released in Clash of the Titans. (Don’t release it!) Leviathan (The Bible): The Original Biblical Sea Monster. Hangs out near the Hellmouth. Lion Turtle (Avatar: the Last Airbender): Giant, ancient, looks like an island, gives pretty great advice. The Little Mermaid (Hans Christian Andersen/Disney): The heroine of one of Andersen’s most beloved tales, the Little Mermaid falls in love with a human prince, and…well, the Disney version is much less complicated. Very big in Copenhagen. Makara (Hindu Mythology): Any creature that is half land animal on top with the bottom half of an acquatic creature; so: person + seal, or wildebeest + whale. Makara! Marsh-wiggle (Narnia Chronicles): Extremely private, pessimistic humanoid creatures that live in the marshes of Narnia. Mega Shark (Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus, Mega Shark Vs. Crocosaurus): A large Shark who is the sworn enemy of Giant Octopus, Crocosaurus and good taste. Melusine (European Folklore): Female spirit who hangs out in springs and rivers. Kind of like a mermaid. Merpeople (Folklore from All Over): People who live in the water. Often they have fish tails. Moby Dick (Moby Dick): A misunderstood white whale who only wants to give Captain Ahab a love tap.

Prehistoric Creatures That Still Exist Today

Top 10 animals from that existed millions of years ago during the dinosaur era still roaming the earth today. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like The Biggest Bugs Ever Found https://youtu.be/jPOuuCwVk8I?list=PLXK3uPjJ22FUgkmE10ySoALx9YjknvXHI Viral Photos That Fooled Everyone https://youtu.be/2BQfnO8TC9k?list=PLXK3uPjJ22FUgkmE10ySoALx9YjknvXHI Some photos courtesy of Greg Mann at http://www.OTLIBRARY.COM Description: At its core, evolution is a weeding out process. Remove the weak and flawed and move forward with the best and fittest among existing species. For a species to have lasted through not only generations but across eras and time periods, those inside of that species have to have adapted within their present environment and preserved their existence amidst predatory threats. Humans may be intellectually advanced beings, but we never had to find a means of survival while dinosaurs roamed the earth. Other creatures, however, did. And, believe it or not, some of them have stuck around to this very day. While we humans view ourselves as the predominant species on the planet, we weren’t the first one’s here, nor are we currently the longest-reigning residents of the planet. When you think about it, this list of prehistoric creatures that continue to exist into the present day features species that have lived alongside – and survived and outlived – some of the biggest, nastiest and most vicious carnivores to ever walk the earth. It helps that so many of the species dwell under water, leaving them safe from some threats while prone to others and also making them rarely seen and almost mythical in nature. Indeed, little seems to have changed for these species as they’ve forged through so much of the universe’s existence. Most have maintained a remarkable level of similarity in their appearance and behavior from their prehistoric selves. Incredibly, these creatures may not represent a complete collection of what still exists among us. Despite modern advances in scientific technology, we are still learning of existing species both new and old, including ones thought long since extinct. The ancient coelacanth fish, for instance, was thought to have died out 65 million years ago, with researchers unaware that lucky fishermen off the coast of Africa had been occasionally catching them for years. Ultimately, one species came to be officially rediscovered in 1938 and another more recently in 1998. What we do know, however, is that we share the planet with living things that go back hundreds of millions of years. From ferocious sharks and alligators to living organisms as inert as a sea sponge, species both aggressive and tacit have stuck around long-term. All they share is an ancestry that goes back longer than we could possibly fathom. To put the life span of some of these species into perspective, the modern form of humans has a lineage that only traces back 200,000 years, with our earliest ancestors dating back to about six million years ago. In all of these estimated timelines, you can probably quibble on a million years here and there, but they still paint a picture of some pretty old species. Suffice to say, the ancestors of these creatures would probably have some stories to tell, provided that they were intelligent beings, could speak and didn’t die millions of years ago. Still, the survival skills of their species clearly can’t be questioned. Here are 10 prehistoric creatures that continue to live among us. 5 CRAZY CREATURES - real or fake?

03:29
Hey guys, bill here… it never ceases to amaze me how many crazy creature pictures you guys send me. From bizarre cats with fish mouths to blinged out ants… here are 5 of my recent favorites _____________________________________________________ Panda Ant Picture also submitted by Charlie Fitzpatrick _____________________________________________________ Number 1 is wild looking frog sent in by H and A Nonsence… I thought it was a balloon when I first saw it, but actually, it’s real. It’s called a desert rain frog. Laven Ayala was the first one on my facebook to identify it. It us usually found on the beaches of Namibia and South Africa. Number 2 is this black and white number. sent in by Fleming Games who just wants to know if it is real or not. Fleming it’s real. It’s called the Panda Ant. First discovered in 1938, these dangerous creatures are actually wasps and are also known as “cow killers” because of their powerful sting! They can be found in the Americas from Southern United States to Chile. Next we have this crazy looking cat sent in by Wellington Meadows. Wellington, this is what we call 200% fake. This is a real catfish. This is somebody’s photoshop class project. It was first published on a Chinese website in 2008, but the creator is unknown. Here is the shark that the mouth and teeth were copied from. And here is another version called… WTF???? Number 4 is this giant dog sent in by Dominic Lee. Dominic, I know it doesn’t look like it could be possibly real… it is real. It’s called a Tibetan Mastiff and while it may not be the biggest dog in the world, it could possibly be the most expensive. An 11-month old pup named Big Splash (“Hong Dong” in Chinese) was recently sold in the China for 10 million yuan — about $1.5 million in U.S. dollars. Our final crazy creature today, is this super scary looking owl sent in by Ruby Farrel. Ruby if you ever see something like this outside your window, run to your nearest computer and go to Worth1000.com. Because it is there you will see it’s just part of a photoshop contest and nothing more than a big fat fake. Ok well, that does it for now. I want to thank everyone who sent in all the crazy looking animals we looked at today. And remember, if you have a picture or a video that you are not sure about. Send it to me at [email protected] and I will take a look. See you next time!

WEIRD EXPLODING SEA CREATURE

05:21
Hey guys, Bill here. With more than 90% of the world’s oceans unexplored, we all know there are some really strange creature out there. But this one is probably as weird as it gets. The video goes by the name of "Weird Exploding Sea Creature" and it was sent in by Mark Paccone, 99 Strikes, and Boxxy Trolley, Thomas Revels, Shawn Ratsinger, SSgame just to name a few. The video shows a group of Japanese guys fishing at the ocean. At one point they spot these strange looking creatures hanging on to the rocks. The creatures scatter when the men approach to investigate, but they do manage to find one alone. The men poke at it, turn it over, even pour Coca Cola on it. But before they can figure out what it is, it vomits some kind of fluid on the men, and then explodes. Now as you can imagine, the thing that everyone wants to know about this is - and do I need to say it? Is this video Real? Or is some kind of Japanese horror movie Fake? Why don’t we poke around and see what we can find out. INVESTIGATION REPORT As I started looking around, I quickly realized this was not going to be easy. All my usual sources such as snopes, hoax busters, and even Hoax Slayer had absolutely no data at all on this odd little video. I turned my attention to the multiple copies of this thing posted on Youtube, but didn’t get very far with that either. It just all turned into Japanese after a while and even Google translate couldn’t figure out what they were talking about in the comments. I even posted it on my Facebook too see anyone recognized the creature - There were a few suggestions - like possible sea pig slug, but nothing I could pin down for sure. Man, this thing was frustrating. I was almost ready to give up when I remembered - when the going gets tough here at billschannel, the tough just turn to the “A” team for some help. In this case, Brant Reiter, an American who has spent many years working in Japanese media… BRANT: Tthis video comes from a collection of videos in Japan that was released as a DVD called Ura Horror. Ura in Japanese means Hidden or secret. But it is presented as horror stories from real life. Thanks to Brant, who speaks Japanese, we were able to track down the whole series and found the full length version of the video. In this version it is introduced by a young girl who is disguised. BRANT: I can’t really get it all because her voice is disguised… but she says the video was recorded by a relative of hers who later died in a car accident. They tried to take the tape to a bunch of TV stations, but no one would broadcast it. OK, well, that’s a lot of information but thanks to all my friends on Facebook and Brant I do have the answer here. But first, let’s recap what we know. The video comes from a collection of so called, secret, or untold horror stories. But the creators of the video claim what they recorded comes from real life. On the other hand, I couldn’t find anyone who recognized the creature or could name it. But then again, Over 90% of our oceans are unexplored and it could be something new. Now based on everything I have been able to gather, I’m judging the Exploding sea creature video… A fake. First off, I don’t think there is any creature that vomits on people like that. It doesn’t make any sense biologically. And secondly, as Terry Woolhead pointed out on facebook - When they flip the creature over, there are no ligaments or any structures that would give it the ability to move as quickly as it does in the earlier scene. And finally, if you watch the explosion at the end, it is clearly computer generated. My thanks to all the people who sent this in and to Brant for helping us out… and remember, if you have a picture or video and you’re not quite sure if it is real or not… send it to me at [email protected] See you next time.

Wild Animals in Water - Close Encounters

04:19
These are some close encounters with wild animals out at sea. Watch Hippos, whales and sharks attacking or just saying “Hi”, ether way it makes for some awesome footage! A wild hippopotamus can weigh up to 3 tonnes and have been known to move at speeds well over 40 kilometres per hour for short bursts, if a hippopotamus is chasing you and wants to make a meal out of you it is not often possible to out run these mammoth beasts, see what it looks like when Angry Hippo is charging boat on the chobe river in Botswana See a great white shark off the coast of Mossel Bay in South Africa as it attacks an inflatable boat, an inflatable boat would be easily ruptured by a great white shark and in this clip it is. All those aboard were lucky to make it back to the shore in one piece, thanks to in no small part to the expertise of the tour operators in South Africa. Fishing in shark infested waters on a kayak when a shark can be seen breaching the water just a few meters away from the fisherman Isaac Brumaghim, a heart racing moment. In the moment when a scuba diver off Souza Rock on the Central California Coast Divers have a close call with Humpback Whale that almost swallows him whole as it breaches the surface to feed on a school of fish that he had been filming underwater a moment before. Killer whale chasing speed boat, the whale in this clip is most likely teaching its young how to hunt for prey in the surf, and the wake from the passing speed boat creates the ideal conditions for this practice run. If there was any motivation to be in a boat rather than in the water swimming the clips in this video are it! TOP 10 SEA MONSTERS That Actually Exist

06:32
10 Real Sea Creatures Lifted Directly from Your Nightmares Any fan of this site knows that the core of our mission statement is "Nature is terrifying and you should only leave the house if it's an emergency." But in the course of our relentless examination of horrifying insects and vicious predators, we have to say that consistently all of them pale in comparison to the stuff that lives in the water. The ocean is the earth's last frontier, and just as we always suspected, it's full of sea monsters. Like ... #10. The Fish That Looks Like the Predator Well, it has the Predator's mouth, anyway. In some ways, the sarcastic fringehead (yes, that's its actual name) is more horrifying, because before it opens its mouth, it just looks like a regular fish with old geezer jowls ... If reincarnation is real, this is what Nixon's coming back as. ... before its entire face opens up into a gaping sprawl of predatory terror. Sarcastic fringeheads are incredibly territorial, by the way, and they use their enormous jaws to battle each other in a ritual that looks like two parachutes trying to make out: And no, we don't know why they are called that. They don't look very sarcastic to us, but their name makes them seem less frightening and a lot more douchey. Discovery "No, dude, totally, eat all my fries, I didn't pay for them or anything." #9. The Venus Flytrap of the Sea They look like something you'd find in a meteor impact crater, but really, predatory tunicates are a kind of sea squirt that live in deep-sea canyons off California. What sets them apart from their placid sea squirt cousins is that the predatory tunicate is like an underwater Venus flytrap -- it sits there, rooted in place, waiting for some unwitting prey to pass close to its gaping, incandescent mouth, and then snatches it up. With that kind of diet, they can't afford to be very picky. "Zooplankton, again?" In addition to looking like aliens from a SyFy movie about creatures that bite the dicks off passing swimmers, the tunicates can have sex with themselves if they can't find another to mate with. Which is helpful since, you know, they're stuck to the ground. What else are you going to do to fight the boredom? #8. The Fish That Kills from Below That monstrosity is called a northern stargazer. OK, whose goddamned idea was it to call it that? The word "stargazer" brings to mind some wispy fish with bright hippie colors and big cartoon eyes; this looks like the mud has spontaneously grown a face. Well, you know who else gazes up at the stars? The devil, from his throne in hell, apparently. The northern stargazer is actually a kind of fish, if you can believe that. Most of it exists under the mud, so you can normally only see the horrible bits. The northern stargazer has its eyes and mouth on top of its head due to its feeding strategy -- when it feels like a snack, it buries itself in the dirt in as little as four seconds flat, becoming nothing but a grimacing skull-face in the mud. When something tasty swims by overhead, the last thing it ever sees is something out of Jim Henson's nightmares. Wait, did we say that last thing looked like a monster from a SyFy movie about a creature that bites the dicks off passing swimmers? Because we clearly spoke too soon. Look at the expression on that thing's face! It wants to eat your junk! As if that wasn't bad enough, they apparently have organs above their eyes that can emit electrical shocks. Thanks, Nature! #7. The Shark That Looks Like a Throw Rug OK, what are we looking at here? Is that a plant? Whatever it is, it's coming unraveled around the edges. That is the carpet shark, which also goes by the ridiculous name of tasseled wobbegong. It obviously gets its name from the fact that it looks like a throw rug, except that it's a throw rug full of jagged teeth that will eat the shit out of you. It's like a welcome mat for the ocean that also hates you. Here's one that's in the process of swallowing another shark whole, face-first:

This Bizarre Sea Creature Is A Colony Of 'Multi-Jet Swimming Machine'

01:06
New research describes how members of a jellyfish-like species form a coordinated unit to propel themselves through the water by placing the smaller ones in front to steer and the bigger ones behind them to act as the engine. Colonial animals are those that may seem like one larger body but are made of individuals that depend on each other for survival like the polyps of corals.  Now researchers have published a new study that describes a colony of jellyfish-like sea creatures which act as a unit to propel themselves through the water.  They use a clear division of labor where the smaller juveniles provide steering functions in the front, the larger, more powerful members act as engines behind them, and in the back are those responsible for breeding and food.  While this kind of coordinated traveling is rare to find in any form, the lead author calls this one in particular “a highly efficient system in which no developmental stage is wasted.”  The team found that the unit can even propel themselves more than 656 feet in one day.  These colonies were recorded in action near Friday Harbor in Washington state, and adjacent particle movements were used to determine the different roles of each group.  Researchers hope their findings can help to inform the design of underwater vehicles.
