Check out meanings behind 10 names of companies. Let's face it. A lot of companies have strange names. Sure, often they're recognizable because the company is a famous one, but beyond than that, are they really decipherable? To help clear up some of the confusion and mystery, here are the explanations behind 10 weird ones. Number 10. Lego. This one's particularly tricky because it's in Danish and it's been shortened. The name is derived from the words leg godt, which means to play well. Number 9. Reebok. It's a variation on rhebok, the Afrikaans word for a local antelope. It was picked from a South African dictionary one of the founders won in a race as a child. Number 8. Pepsi-Cola. The drink was named both for an enzyme called pepsin to highlight the drink's superior ability to aid in digestion, and after the kola nut extract it contained. Not exactly the hip image they promote today. Number 7. Kia. For those who know how to speak Korean, this one is pretty straightforward. In the language KIA translates as 'rising Asia'. Number 6. Panera. They could have just called it pan, which in slight variations means bread in a few languages, but their vision was much grander. Instead they chose Panera, the Latin way of saying the 'time of bread', which is definitely more encompassing. Number 5. Google. If you've long thought that Google was really a subtle command to go ogle stuff on the Internet you're not alone. The name, however, is really a take on Googol, the math term for a 1 that's followed by a hundred zeros. It reflects the founders' desire to make order out of endless amounts of information. Number 4. Volkswagen. Literally, it means the people's car, but it represents the realization of a long-pursued goal in Germany. For years, automakers tried but failed to make a car all could afford. Eventually, Volkswagen succeeded. Number 3. Canon. Back when it was called the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory, trial cameras were named Kwanon after the Buddhist goddess of mercy. When it came time to market the brand, the similar sounding option Canon came into play -- and favor -- as it means the standard by which others are judged. Number 2. Sony. A combination of Latin and slang, the name is a blend of 'sonus', the root of sound and sonic and 'sonny boy' a 1950s Japanese street term for forward-looking youth. Number 1. Nokia. The company has always been in the business of enabling communication, but when it started in 1865 their product was paper. A second mill built a few years later along the shore of Finland's Nokianvirta river resulted in the company's new name in 1871.

The names and logos of famous brands have a secret meaning you've never heard of. Each company logo has a story behind it. Many brand names seem meaningless to us but have an interesting explanation in the language of the country they come from. “Lego” means “play well” in Danish, “Fanta” comes from German “Fantasie”, Chupa Chups was named so after the Spanish verb “chupar”, which means “to suck”, “Samsung” is Korean for “3 stars”. “Pandora” has to do with a myth of the creation of the first human woman named Pandora. As for the logos, some of them were inspired by real sights, such as the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany for Disney. Others have historical meaning, such as the red cross from the city of Milan’s emblem, and the bloodthirsty crowned viper of the House of Visconti in Alfa Romeo’s logo. The Chupa Chups symbol as we know it was designed by super famous artist Salvador Dali himself. TIMESTAMPS Disney 0:30 Lego 1:06 Pepsi 1:33 Fanta 2:13 Chupa Chups 2:40 Nintendo 3:26 Pandora 4:01 Häagen-Dazs 4:45 Cadillac 5:25 Durex 5:55 Levi’s 6:22 eBay 6:57 Samsung 7:26 Sega 8:04 Audi 8:40 Alfa Romeo 9:20 SUMMARY -The current Disney logo was inspired by the Cinderella Castle and created in 2006. -“Lego” comes from the Danish phrase “leg godt”, which means “play well”. -Look at Pepsi’s logo from a different angle and you will get a creepy message. -Try to say “fantasy” in German to understand where the word “Fanta” comes from. -You will be surprised to know Salvador Dali designed the Chupa Chups logo. -The 3 Japanese characters “Nin-ten-do” mean “leave luck to heaven”. -“Pandora” logo with a crown promises you excellent royal quality. -If you were wondering what “Häagen-Dazs” means, you’ll be sad to find out it stands for nothing. -Cadillac was named after French explorer Sieur de Cadillac, founder of Detroit. -“Durex” stands for “durability, reliability, and excellence”. -Pay close attention to “Levi’s” logo to see what body part it’s covering. -“eBay” is the short for Echo Bay, not “Electronic Bay” as many people think. -“Sam” in Korean means “3,” and “Sung” stands for “star”. - You will be surprised to find out that SEGA stands for “Service Games of Japan.” -“Horch” means “listen” in German, and “Audi” is the same thing in Latin. -The Alfa Romeo logo has the city of Milan’s emblem and the symbol of the House of Visconti in it. The history behind the worlds most popular logos. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: There are certain brands that are so well known it’s impossible to imagine they were ever called anything else. But lots of huge companies underwent a brand name change. This typically happened early in their history. Their founders had a change of heart, or had a legal dispute, or came up with something better. We’ll give you the fascinating stories behind 10 brands you didn't know changed their names. There are several Internet companies in this list that have really interesting backstories behind their company name changes. Take Amazon for example. We’ll reveal the previous moniker that you can still type into your web browser now and be redirected to Amazon.com. You’ll no doubt laugh out loud at Google and Yahoo!’s original names. Let’s just say, it’s a good job their founders thought up new versions. As for dating app Tinder, its founders had to consult a thesaurus when they decided to move away from their fiery original. Brands like Nike, Subway and Pepsi started out with much longer monikers. Skype’s original name was long too, but its new version led to the company being taken to court. WWE also had a legal dispute over its original brand WWF. Find out why the wrestling federation had to switch its acronym. And learn why fashion brand Coach is changing its name at the end of October 2017. Watch our video to discover 10 brands you didn't know changed their names, and let us know in comments which brand you think should change its name next! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/

How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! Have you ever wondered how Japanese people pronounce japanese car brand names? well, fear no more. In today's video, I will teach you how to say Japanese car brand names such as Mitsubishi, Subaru, Mazda, Lexus, Acura and Toyota. Sorry guys, I meant Lexus wasn't recognized as a brand in Japan until 2005. Not North America. And for those of you getting butthurt over this "correct" pronunciation video, let me remind you that I did not create this video to force anyone to pronounce brands the Japanese way. Do I force Japanese people to pronounce Ford, GM, and Chrysler the way we do in the states? Hell no. This video is for entertainment and educational purposes only. Every region pronounces words differently and that's the beauty of the diverse world we live in. I plan on filming another episode on "how to pronounce Japanese car models" and motorcycle brand names. if you have a car like Hakosuka or Hachiroku that you are curious how it's pronounced, comment away in the comment section below :) Help Us Reach 250k Subscribers! - https://goo.gl/6YCzTF Evo Parts And CZero Merchandise - http://www.CZeroMedia.com (Coupon Code "YOUTUBE") *** Facebook - https://goo.gl/qJMpn3 *** Instagram - https://goo.gl/1RJmhc *** My Camera Setup - https://goo.gl/VU2xLJ Follow my builds *** 500HP Voltex Evo 8 - https://goo.gl/2NYogt *** LS6 FD RX7 Race Car - https://goo.gl/BJZ1AK *** Honda Café Racer - https://goo.gl/aYPCss *** Asian Redneck Dodge Ram - https://goo.gl/4sFyy5 *** Vlogs - https://goo.gl/PbsHpF acura

Head over to my blog to learn more and download my free naming worksheet (pdf) - the process I use to brainstorm names for my clients: https://ebaqdesign.com/blog/brand-name/ Are you tired of searching for the right name? It’s hard to find a good brand name. One thing that will give you a head start on the naming endeavor is an understanding of the types of names that are out there. Hello everyone this is Arek Dvornechuck from Ebaqdesign and today Im going to share with you the different types of names and how to chose one for your brand. Let’s look at some of the famous brands and learn from them. The first type of brand name is name after Founder. 1. Names after Founders Many companies are named after founders. It might be easier to protect that type of name and It satisfies an ego. Naming after founder works extremely well in fashion. A great example is Gucci named after founder Guccio Gucci. Another great example is Tiffany, named after Charles Lewis Tiffany. Founder names are best for luxury & high-end brands. 2. Descriptive names Descriptives names work by telling you exactly what the company does. These names convey the nature of the business. A great example is Facebook. A book of faces. Descriptive names clearly communicate the brand story. Another good example is Groupon. A group of Coupons. They are usually hard to trademark, so you may want to slightly tweak the words. It also makes the Groupon name fall into the next category of the Farbicated names. 3. Fabricated names Because it’s so hard to find new names, companies invent names by changing, adding or removing letters. A great example is Kodak, which is just a made-up name, invebted by the founder who liked the “K” letter. Another good example is Verizon, which was created from he word “horizon” with a small tweak to it. These types of names offer the most creative altitude for a brand. 4. Metaphor names These types of names work by reflecting imagery and meaning back to the brand. A perfect example is Nike, which is a Greek goddess of victory. Metaphor names bring to mind the experience or positioning of a brand. Another good example is Amazon, which is the biggest river in the World. These names are interesting to visualize and make for powerful differentiators. 5. Acronym names Acronyms have been used for brand names since branding beginnings and they are nothing more than a series of unrelated uppercase letters. The most known example is probably IBM, that stands for International Business Machines. Acronyms are just short-hand version of descriptive name. Another good example Is CVS, that stands for Convenience, Value and Service, but who really care about that? It’s just CVS. They’re usually chosen to solve the problem of multi-word long names, however they’re extremely hard to protect. And the last name category on my list is Real Words. 6.Real Words. Real word names are just words taken out of a dictionary that suggest attributes or benefits. A great example is Uber, that means super, excellent, more than just a taxi. Another good example is Sharp, that stands for the company’s first product - an ever sharp mechanical pencil. This type of name works well for a company with big, bold and broad ambitions. As you already know, you can name your brand in a variety of ways. Do you have a preference for a particular type of name? Leave a comment below and hit that like button. Make sure you subscribe to this channel if you want to get notified about my new videos that will help you with the branding of your business. http://ebaqdesign.com Good design is good business.

So in this list, I'll be showing you 5 Strange Ways Famous Brands Got Their Names! 5) Asus Asus is very large electronics company probably best known for their affordable laptops. The official statement is that Asus got their name from Pegasus which is the flying horse from ancient Greek mythology. The horse represents strength, purity and an adventurous spirit. Something the folks Asus feel captures what their company is all about. The reason why it's been shortened is not known. However, some sources state that it was a clever strategy to ensure Asus are placed near the top of any list of businesses sorted into alphabetical order. 4) Sharp Another large electronics company that got their name from something completely unrelated. Before Sharp produced electronics they made pencils. Their unique mechanical pencil was said to be an ever ready sharp pencil. So to reflect the main unique selling point of their product, the company was called Sharp. It achieved great success making pencils but that all changed when an earthquake in 1923 destroyed their factory. A few years later, Sharp started making radios, and since then they've grown to become a giant electronics company. 3) Volvo The Swedish car manufacturer got their name from Latin. Volvo translates to "I Roll" which makes perfect sense for a car company. However when Volvo first started they didn't make cars. In fact, they originally started out producing ball bearings, and the Latin "I Roll" fits perfectly for ball bearings too. As time went on the owners of Volvo decided to try making a car. Three years later and their first ever car rolled off the production line. 2) American Express American Express doesn't sound like a credit card company but more like a logistic company. That's because American Express started out as a high-speed delivery service back in 1850. The company noticed that they made most of their profit from doing trans-bank deliveries. So they started taking on more bank based jobs and that was their first step into the financial world. As time progressed they became one of the leading financial services corporations. 1) Bluetooth Bluetooth sounds like it got its name from just putting two random words together. In fact, the actual story is far more interesting and it's actually a really smart name. The name Bluetooth came from the Viking king Harald Blatand whose surname literally translates to Bluetooth. His surname, however, is no coincidence as apparently, Harald Blatand suffered from a dead tooth which turned blue. He was known for being able to establish communications between two parties in a non-violent manner. This made him an excellent example when developing communication technologies. The Bluetooth logo is also no accident. It's the initials of Harald Blatand written in Scandinavian Runes. When you combine the two letters you get the Bluetooth logo. ------------------------------------------------------- Vlog Channel: http://www.youtube.com/more5 Twitter: https://twitter.com/OfficialAll5 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sam_all5 Snapchat: SamAll5YT Website: http://www.All5.me -------------------------------------------------------

Transcript: Twitter, Facebook, Spotify, Expedia, Skype, eBay ... What do these names and many more like them have in common? They are not only all dot-com names but they are all made-up words. Invented names like these are so popular for many reasons: 1. Invented names are easy to get and protect. You won't be paying millions of dollars to get an invented and catchy name with the essential dot-com. And you won't see another company using the name "Pixar" or "Pepsi." The trademark comes easy with these types of names. 2. Made-up words give the founders an opportunity to create their own definition, on their terms. What do the words "Orbitz" and "Twitter" mean to you? This is called branding. 3. The alternative, common name domains, such as Pets.com, FurnitureOnline.com and Toys.com, can never truly develop a singular identity that is separate from its competitors. This is because names like these are a category of brands, not a brand itself. Petco is an example of a true brand. IKEA is a true brand. Hasbro and Mattel are true brands. The right brand name can have a huge affect on your target audience. Creative and inventive names, like the ones found at Brandroot.com will have a lasting affect on your customers.
