Clunk Click (even on the shortest trip) - Jimmy Savile

03:42
"Clunk Click Every Trip" was the slogan of a series of British public information films sponsored by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), commencing in January 1971 and starring Jimmy Savile. The slogan was introduced during the previous campaign, fronted by Shaw Taylor and featuring the slogan "Your Seatbelt Is Their Security". However, it was the onomatopoeia used by Taylor to describe the act of closing the door and fastening a seatbelt that proved the most memorable aspect of that campaign, and so it was upgraded to act as the slogan when the films moved into colour. The advertisements highlighted the dangers of being thrown through the windscreen in a traffic collision and reminded drivers that the first thing they should do after closing the door ("Clunk") is fasten their seatbelt ("Click"). These advertisements helped lay the groundwork for compulsory seatbelt use in the front seat of a vehicle, which came into force on 31 January 1983, in the UK, although car manufacturers had been legally obliged to fit front seatbelts in vehicles since 1965 Some of the films in the series included: Maximillian, in which a young man who was paralysed in a car crash as a result of not wearing a seatbelt advises the audience to "Clunk Click Every Trip". Shopping, with Jimmy explaining that, contrary to popular belief, most road accidents occur on short trips and often on roads with which the driver is familiar, such as women going shopping for groceries or collecting children from school. Accidents At Speed, showing what can happen to an unbelted person in the front of a car in a crash at 30mph or faster. Lucky Escape, where a young couple explain how seatbelt use saved their lives in an accident that completely crushed their car. Myrtle, showing a woman who was blinded in a car accident because she wasn't belted in. Loose Objects, in which Jimmy demonstrates, using an egg in two different boxes, how a seatbelt will protect you in the event of an accident. The last Public Information Film to use the slogan was Elephant, produced in 1993.

Gary Glitter and Jimmy Savile in their element

00:34
Gary Glitter and Jimmy Savile with a lot of young girls? Nothing suspicious going on here surely. What nice gentlemen they seem. Considering recent revelations about Jimmy Savile and of course slightly older accusations about Gary Glitter it would seem that this video is very much in the public interest and should be available for people to see what was happening. Not just behind closed doors but in plain sight. Where in the last 20 years paedophilia has been considered to be a heinous crime it was apparently acceptable during the 70s. My mother told me that she had tried to invite Jimmy Saville down to our youth club back then. Jimmy had offered to do it for a thousand pounds which was to be given to charity. And of course for an additional thousand pounds in notes that was to be put in his pocket. The youth club couldn't afford this, thank God for that. If he hadn't been so greedy and money grabbing God knows what my mum would have invited into our village. This video is a short clip focussing on the behaviour of a pair of predatory paedophiles in the public eye who have had a massive amount of prominence to anyone brought up in Britain during the last 40 years. The purpose of isolating this small clip is to satirise and draw attention to the fact that their behaviour was in clear view on television; this is alluded to by the subtle tongue in cheek title 'Gary Glitter and Jimmy Savile in their element'. It is a principle of British justice that criminal behaviour and conviction should be fully transparent. It is not just important that justice be done but that justice should be seen to be done. The central focus of the video is the very dangerous Jimmy Savile who was a subject of hero worship by the very children upon whom he preyed. Jimmy Savile made a mockery of the law throughout his life and felt himself to be untouchable up until his death. It is important that such dangerous criminals should not be allowed to get away with sexually abusing hundreds of minors with full freedom and even the knowledge of co workers as this man did. ITV aired a long documentary detailing the abhorrent behaviour of this man but this one particular clip shows the very essence of his attitude in front of the camera. It is not appropriate to the spirit of the law that the film should be used to make a documentary for the profit of television companies but should then be allowed to disappear and fade out of public consciousness. The forum for debate that the comments on youtube allow keep the memory of this debatably most dangerous paedophile predator in the history of the world in the public consciousness. None should be allowed to forget the nature of the offences of which this man is guilty nor the complicity of the BBC in allowing him to do what he did. It is understandable that a television company should dispute the public availability of a television personality acting in such an underhand manner in full view as it will draw attention to any future failings of television personalities but it is in the spirit of the law that when so much is known about a particular offender who escaped justice then his notoriety should be available and open to discussion as freely as possible. British copyright law recognises the principles of fair use but its parameters are not fully defined due to the nature of the common law doctrine of precedent. I believe that opening discussion in this forum lies fully within my rights as a British subject. Naturally I must give full credit to ITV for making this clip available on television in their recent uncovering of Jimmy Savile's predatory behaviour but the original credit would naturally be with the BBC who would originally have aired this clip.
