15 MOST Luxurious Fashion Brands

11:15
From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

We live in times of unprecedented, disruptive change and uncertainty and most people find it challenging to thrive in those circumstances. If ‘design thinking’ is the new black, then thinking like a fashion design may just be the next big thing! This talk takes the idea of design thinking and translates it into a series of very practical tips that you can employ yourself, every day to help you think more optimistically in times of uncertainty and ambiguity. Professor Suzi Vaughan has settled (for now) in Brisbane, Australia having studied, lived and worked in Europe and Asia. After graduating from St Martins School of Art in London with a Ba Hons in Fashion, she started her professional career as a fashion designer, later moving into fashion education. Since 2011 she has been part of the executive team of a large Australian university. With over thirty years’ experience of design practice and teaching, she has become an advocate for the power and potential of design thinking. Karl Lagerfeld - German fashion designer and icon | DW Documentary

42:26
The German-born designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at the age of 85. He was a designer, an artist and a fashion icon. For this sad occasion we recommend a portrait DW made in 2014. No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, was as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, 2018 the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses celebrated his 85th birthday. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments were notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld worked in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary of 2015 follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Top 10 Most Famous Fashion Designers Of All Time

02:12
10. Yves Saint Laurent: Yves Saint Laurent became popular in fashion circles due to his creativity in redesigning the clothes considered to be masculine into beautiful, feminine wardrobe for women. Perhaps, one of the most famous fashion designers in France, Yves was the first one to introduce power dressing for women in the form of “power suits” in the year 1966. He is also credited with designing the men’s smoking jacket. 9. Pierre Cardin: The Italian-born Frenchman is lauded for his 20th century pieces that looked as though they were from the 25th century. As Cardin rose to fame in the age of the space race, his creations took on an air of futurism. His so-called bubble dresses had all the fixings of science fiction, combining earthly elegance with out-of-this-world colors and avant garde design. 8. Tom Ford: Tom Ford, counted among the most famous designers today, whose portfolio includes serving as a creative director for both Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci, wanted to be actor when he was growing up. He was born in Texas and even took training to be an actor. But fate had other “designs” for him. Tom ford popularity as a designer reached peaks when in the year 2000, he was declared the winner of the Best International Designer Award. 7. Christian Dior: Born in January of 1905, this French designer was best known for his distinctive “New Look” silhouette. First shown in 1947; his suits and dresses revolutionized the way women dressed after the Second World War. Today, talented designer John Galliano carries on the legendary designer’s legacy in Paris, where he creates dramatic couture ball gowns, chic prêt-a-porter, and luxurious accessories for Dior. 6. Ralph Lauren: Ralph Lauren is worth $7.5 billion, and he got it all because of his fashion sense. In 1970, the first Polo logo was seen in Lauren’s line of women’s suits that was designed in the classic men’s style. Two years later, the famous short sleeve shirt with the Polo emblem appeared, and it soon became a classic. Lauren has been collecting rare and classic cars. The collection is so unique that it has been featured in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. 5. Donatella Versace: She is the sister of Gianni Versace. After the murder of Gianni in 1997, Donatella took over and has taken the Versace name to new heights. Top celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Madonna have endorsed the company’s collection of clothes, accessories, fragrances and home furnishings. 4. Calvin Klein: Born in 1942 in New York, Klein also capitalized on his own charisma and lean good looks. His biggest business rival, Ralph Lauren, was believed to envy Klein’s ability to charm so effortlessly. 3. Giorgio Armani: outstanding Italian fashion designer, particularly noted for his menswear for his clean, tailored lines. He formed his company, Armani, in 1975, and by 2001 was acclaimed as the most successful designer to come out of Italy, with an annual turnover of $1.6 billion and a personal fortune of $7 billion as of 2012. Armani is also the first ever designer to ban models who has a Body Mass Index under 18. 2. Donna Karan: Donna Karan came from a background that was related to fashion in certain ways. This fashion designer worked as a head of a design team for a few number of years and launched some designs that included the very well-known ‘Seven Easy Pieces’. She is the sole creator of the DKNY label (Donna Karen New York). Since then, this label has seen many new additions in the fashion segment. 1. Coco Chanel: Born Gabrielle“Coco” Bonheur Chanel, she is a excellent French fashion designer, founder of the well known Chanel brand, whose modernist thought, practical design, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important and influential figure in 20th-century fashion. She was the only fashion designer to be named on Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century. IMAGE SOURCE: "GOOGLE SEARCH" SOURCE: http://www.themost10.com/famous-fashion-designers-all-time/

What Does it Take to Be A Fashion Designer?

06:17
Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

I believed in neutral colors.” —Giorgio Armani Synopsis Born on July 11, 1934, in Italy, Giorgio Armani is an iconic clothing designer who has expanded his empire to include restaurants and hotels. His popularity skyrocketed in America in the 1980s when his men's 'power suits' appeared frequently on the television series Miami Vice and in the 1980 film American Gigolo, which starred Richard Gere in Armani's signature garb. Early Life Designer Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Italy. With his body-conscious yet understated clothing, Giorgio Armani has become one of the most popular names in fashion. He first launched his business empire in the mid-1970s, and it has grown substantially over the years. The Armani brand now includes makeup, housewares, books and hotels. The son of a shipping manager, Armani grew up in a small town outside of Milan. It was a difficult time in Italian history. Giorgio and his two siblings—older brother Sergio and younger sister Rosanna—experienced the hardships of World War II firsthand. Some of his friends were killed during Allied bombings. "We were poor and life was tough," he explained to Harper's Bazaar. "The cinema in Milan was a refuge—a palace of dreams—and the movie stars seemed so glamorous. I fell in love with the idealized beauty of Hollywood stars." At an early age, Armani developed an interest in anatomy, making "dolls out of mud with a coffee bean hidden inside," explained to the Guardian newspaper. His fascination with the human form led to two years of medical study at the University of Piacenza. Taking a break from school, Armani had to complete his required military service. He soon got his first taste of fashion. "I was doing my military service and I had 20 days off on vacation in Milan," he explained to Time magazine. Through a friend, he got a job at a department store. "I started assisting the photographer, designing the windows and things." Early Designs After completing his military service, Armani dropped out of university and went to work at La Rinascente, a famous Milan department store. He then joined the staff of Nino Cerruti as a designer. With the encouragement of his friend Sergio Galeotti, Armani started to do freelance design work for other companies as well. Armani and Galeotti became business partners, founding Giorgio Armani S.p.A. in July 1975. The company's first collection—a men's clothing line—debuted that year. Armani launched a women's collection the following year, which received a warm reception. His clothes were revolutionary at the time, introducing a more natural fit and using a subtle color palette. "My vision was clear: I believed in getting rid of the artifice of clothing. I believed in neutral colors," he later told WWD. High Demand for Armani While his designs were popular in Europe, Armani didn't make a big splash in America until 1980. His clothes were worn by actor Richard Gere in the film American Gigolo (1980), which helped generate a lot of interest in Armani. He also provided much of the wardrobe for the hit television series Miami Vice (1984-89), starring Don Johnson. Soon, many top Hollywood stars started wearing Armani on the red carpet, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Jodie Foster and John Travolta, among others. During the 1980s, wearing Armani became a symbol of success for many business professionals. They especially sought out the brand's "power suits." With demand high, Armani and Galeotti were able to grow the business, opening up Armani stores in Milan. Armani, however, suffered a great personal and professional loss in 1985 when he lost longtime friend and business partner Galeotti to AIDS. While some thought that the business might suffer after Galeotti's death, Armani showed the world that he was just as talented as an executive as he was as a designer.

David Gandy bares all in open Interview: worlds most famous male model interviewed

26:04
AJ The Player travels to the South of France to meet the Worlds most famous male model, David Gandy. After winning a televised competition in 2001, David Gandy became the Worlds most successful male model. In an industry dominated by extremely thin men, Gandy's muscular build caught the eye of Italian fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana. For several years, they featured him in their campaigns and fashion shows, ultimately leading other designers to move to a more masculine standard. Gandy has been the face of D&G's Light Blue fragrance since 2006, shooting multiple campaigns and touring internationally as the brand's ambassador. The increase in his popularity and name recognition resulted in a broad portfolio of clients, magazine covers, editorial photo shoots, interviews, industry awards and television appearances. Having gained a reputation for his personal style, Gandy began writing a blog for British Vogue and lifestyle articles for Telegraph Men. He also launched two mobile apps: one for physical fitness and the other for style tips. Soon thereafter, Gandy was appointed by the British Fashion Council to their committee for 'London Collections: Men' to be a representative of the British fashion industry. In 2014, he moved beyond modelling to designing his own range of underwear, lounge-wear and swimwear for Marks & Spencer, which became one of the company's top-selling clothing lines. Gandy was repeatedly included on British GQ's list of 'Best Dressed Men' and was named the 'Most Stylish Man of the Year' in 2015 at their Men of the Year awards gala. Gandy started his own production company and has invested in small companies and film projects. He has also participated in numerous charity fundraisers, most prominently as the celebrity ambassador for the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Style for Soldiers charity and the 'Blue Steel Appeal', his own non-profit foundation. A car enthusiast, Gandy started writing car reviews for GQ and Mayfair Times and has made televised appearances on Classic Car Show. He obtained a racing licence in 2012 and competed in the 2013 and 2015 Mille Miglia Italian endurance races as well as powerboat races with Martini Racing. After spending some time with him driving his beloved Jaguar XK120 in St Tropez and Monaco, AJ The Player met the man who has influenced a generation of men, from his Dolce Gabana budgie smuggler days to the latest trends at Marks & Spencer. Designers turn Dubai into powerhouse of Indian fashion

05:48
(29 Jan 2018) LEADIN: Indian fashion designers are carving out a niche for themselves in Dubai. Two women have created brands which attract the biggest stars from their homeland as well as an international clientele. STORYLINE: Vivid colours, sparkling sequins and delicate beading - the hallmarks of Indian couture fashion. But these gowns are not hanging in a boutique in Delhi - they are made and sold in Dubai. The high-end fashion is the work of Anjali Khushlani, the founder and designer behind the brand Anjali K. When she started her business six years ago she says there were few Indian couture designers in the UAE. She says her customers wanted something that was "a notch higher" than the mass-produced Indian clothing available in Dubai. "They want to find something different, and not to travel to India, to find bridal wear," she says. Khushlani is not the only designer with Indian heritage making a name for herself here. Meher Mirchandani opened her fashion house 15 years ago. She says Dubai lacks the traditional artisan skills of embroidery and hand weaving commonly found in Indian clothing, so her business has taken a different direction. "That talent did not exist in Dubai. So we were always more Western than Indian but we had ethnic influences," she says. In the Anjali K workshop, the men are focused on delicately hand stitching large swathes of cloth. Details like this are no doubt what appeal to Khushlani's clients - she says most of them are Indian. Mirchandani caters for a similar market - half her orders either come from India or from ex-pats now living in the UAE, but that still leaves a sizeable chunk of customers from the rest of the world. Full of painstaking and intricate work, Anjali K pieces do not come cheap. They start at around 1,600 US dollars and the price goes up according to the complexity of the design. But that's no barrier for India's biggest celebrities. Khushlani has dressed Bollywood star Sunny Leone, a massive coup for her label. "I think people in India and all over the world if they would see a celebrity wearing something they want the same piece," she says. "So I think that's such a big advantage for us that in fact when we dressed Sunny Leone, I remember the next day I had 100 emails." Mirchandani's range sells Western style clothing for between 150 and 250 US dollars. She too has a host of famous fans including American burlesque performer Dita Von Teese and the singer Jordin Sparks. The designer believes the high calibre of Dubai's fashion industry is what attracts well-known names. "Stylists for these celebrities have sourced from the Indian designers (in Dubai) because of the work, because of the quality of the work," she says. "The same has happened with us. When the stylist was looking for Shilpa Shetty, she really liked our piece because it was so simple, the finishing was good, and it was on trend." These female fashion entrepreneurs are turning Dubai into a powerhouse of couture Indian design. 10 Famous Men Who Wear the Same Outfit Every Day

05:14
Life is full of tough choices. Is it time to make a career change? How can I be sure she’s the one? Where am I going on vacation? Not on that list: What am I going to wear today? Well, for most men. Unfortunately, it seems that some guys simply can’t grapple with the most fundamental choice, one each and every one of us has to make every day. And to deal with this decision-making deficiency, these men—powerful men: tech moguls and fashion designers, presidents and popes—have forgone what they amount to being an arduous choice. But what they’ve forgotten most is a sentiment that can be traced back to a lyric from Rush’s seminal “Freewill:” “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”

What is fashion and what is style?men dressing style|men jeans style 2018 fashion boys style denham jeans Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body, or furniture. Fashion is a distinctive and often constant trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behaviour and the newest creations of textile designers. What clothes were worn in the 1900's? In the early 1900s, people covered up more than we do today. Women and girls never wore trousers and women kept their legs hidden with long dresses or skirts. Men and boys often kept their coats, jackets and ties on, even in hot weather. People from every social class usually wore hats when they were What is the fashion for you? Fashion is about expressing your identity, showing someone who you are through your fashion choices and using your clothes to tell someone something about you. Or at least it is for me- I suppose for some people clothing is just about comfort or utility but for me it's about expressing mysel What is the difference between fashion and trends? Fads are novelty driven fashion choices. ... Trends have a much longer lifespan than fads. In fact, they can continue to be fashionable for years and even decades. The primary difference between a trend and a fad is that trends have the potential to be long-term influencers on the market What is the history of fashion? The modern industry, based around firms or fashion houses run by individual designers, started in the 19th century with Charles Frederick Worth who was the first designer to have his label sewn into the garments that he created. What is the definition of a fashion designer? Fashion design is the art of application of design and aesthetics or natural beauty to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social attitudes, and has varied over time and place. What is the definition of style in fashion? What is the difference between fashion and style? What are the teddy girls? Dress? A dress (also known as a frock or a gown) is a garment consisting of a skirt with an attached bodice (or a matching bodice giving the effect of a one-piece garment).[1] It consists of a top piece that covers the torso and hangs down over the legs. A dress can be any one-piece garment containing a skirt of any length. Dresses can be formal or informal. In many cultures, dresses are more often worn by women and girls. The rise of fast fashion? The early to mid 2000s saw a significant rise in the consumption of fast fashion: affordable off-the-peg high street clothing based on the latest high fashion designs. With its low cost appeal driven by trends straight off the runway, fast fashion was a significant factor in the fashion industry’s growth. As affordable clothing became even more important in the entrance to the new age, brands had to find a way to keep up with their consumer’s new spending habits.[8] During the year 1999, department stores such as Macy’s, J.C. Penney, Kohl’s and more had sales totaling $230 billion. In the years that followed, that number began to fall. By the early 2000s the rise of online retail and in-store fast fashion caused department store sales to dwindle in sales in the wake of new styles being offered quicker than ever before by retailers.[9] Retail giants of the new millennium included H&M, Forever 21, and Zara. Notably, the retailer Target found major success in collaborating with various fashion designers for affordable designer pieces available for the average consumer.[10] This trend in fast fashion allowed shoppers to own designer items at lower prices, also allowing the acceptance and production of copycat styles.[11] Designers noticed their designs were being knocked-off, and decided to do something about it. In 2004, the retail giant H&M, a master in rolling out fast fashion, collaborated with fashion designer Karl Lagerfield to introduce a one-time collection which proved to be a huge success, as women flocked to H&M stores to own a piece of the designer’s 30 selections available in the collection.
