How to Install Oracle Java Development Kit(JDK) On Windows 7/8/10

03:26
This tutorial has everything you need to know about installing JDK 8 on Windows. If you’re new to Java, I’ll show you how to setup the Java Development Kit. And if you’re a Java pro? I’ll highlight the needed links that you can use to download the installer. Bottom line: If you want to get up and running with Java, you’ll love this tutorial. JDK Download & Install Java is a computer programming language that is concurrent, class-based and object-oriented. Java applications compile to bytecode (class file) that can then run on a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). James Gosling created Java at Sun Microsystems. It is currently owned by the Oracle Corporation. Consult following posts if you are looking to download and install JDK 1.5, JDK 1.6, JDK 1.7, JDK 1.9 or JDK 1.10. Java can be obtained from the Oracle Java download page. There are a number of different Java packages available, for this tutorial we will be installing Java Standard Edition (SE) on Windows. In order to be able to compile Java code, we need the Java Development Kit (JDK) package that comes with a Java compiler. The JDK package also comes with a Java runtime environment (JRE) that is needed to run compiled Java code. Scroll to the Java SE 8u171/ 8u172 section in the middle of the Oracle Java download pageand click on the Download button right below JDK. Then look for the Java SE Development Kit 8u172 section. Here is the direct link to download the jdk 8u172 installer for Windows 32 or 64 bit. Accept the License Agreement and pick the correct download for your operating system. In this example, we will use the Windows 64 bit version. Sign in using your Oracle account (or create a new one) and the download should start. Once the download is complete, locate the jdk-8u172-windows-x64.exe file and double-click to run the installer. Click Next and on the following screen optionally change the installation location by clicking on the Change... button. In this example the default install location of 'C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_172\' was kept. From now on we will refer to this directory as: [java_install_dir]. We will not install the public JRE as the JDK Development tools include a private JRE that can run developed code. Select the Public JRE dropdown and click on This feature will not be available. as shown below. Click Next and then Close to finish installing Java. JDK Configuration In order for Java applications to be able to run we need to setup a 'JAVA_HOME' environment variable that will point to the Java installation directory. In addition, if we want to run Java commands from a command prompt we need to setup the 'PATH' environment variable to contain the Java bin directory. When using Windows the above parameters can be configured on the Environment Variables panel. Click on the Windows Startbutton and enter “env” without quotes as shown below. Environment variables can be set at account level or at system level. For this example click on Edit environment variables for your account and following panel should appear. Click on the New button and enter “JAVA_HOME” as variable name and the [java_install_dir] as variable value. In this tutorial the installation directory is 'C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_172'. Click OK to to save. #INSTALLING#JAVA#JDK

There are a lot of options to choose from, between Java EE, what is now Jakarta EE, MicroProfile, and combinations of their APIs. If we look at available application containers the number of possibilities are even higher. Which platforms, particular standards and runtimes should enterprise developers base their applications on in year 2018? This session shows the difference between Java EE, Jakarta EE, MicroProfile and their individual specifications. We’ll how their APIs complement each other and enable us to develop applications with focus on high productivity using well-known APIs Especially cloud native applications require a few additional technical concerns, such as telemetry and resiliency that are added by the recent MicroProfile specifications. We will also see a comparison of Java Enterprise runtimes, which containers support MicroProfile, which deployment models are there, and what choice makes sense for different technology stacks. NoSQL, WTF! Let’s Talk NewSQL

56:32
Enterprise Java developers moved from traditional RDBMS solutions such as Oracle Database and MySQL to NoSQL solutions such as Cassandra, MongoDB, and CouchDB to achieve elasticity, but for a hefty price: ACID properties. It seemed like a fair price to pay at the time. But not anymore. Here comes NewSQL —the best of both worlds. The NewSQL solutions aim to deliver the same scalability, elasticity, and performance while still maintaining the ACID properties of a traditional single-node RDBMS. NuoDB is gaining a lot of popularity in this domain. Volt DB is another good example. This presentation goes into the architectural and implementation details of the NewSQL database paradigm and discusses why it is time to think beyond NoSQL. Managed memory, which results in garbage collection (GC) pauses that are both non-deterministic and potentially very long often results in traditional JVM deployments designed to alleviate these issues, not solve them. In this session, we will explain how the Zing JVM from Azul Systems solves the problem of GC as well as providing better overall performance by using the Falcon JIT compiler. Find out how applications running on Zing start fast, go faster and stay fast! ••• Easy and Fast Stream Processing ••• by Fuad Malikov In this session you will learn all about directed acyclic graph (DAG) and why it is so powerful for Big Data processing. We will walk you through the evolution of Big Data computing from sequential to DAG as well as other techniques such as SP/SC, Cooperative Multithreading, Data Locality, In-Memory sources and sinks, and WaitFree algorithms that power the third generation of Big Data processing. This presentation will also feature an introduction to Hazelcast JET, an Apache 2 licensed, DAG-based platform for in-memory streaming and fast batch processing that illustrates many of the techniques found in a third generation Big Data platform. We will walk you through coding common tasks in Java and then step it up to writing full-blown applications in less than a hundred lines of Java code, for applications such as Bitcoin, Twitter sentiment analysis and real-time monitoring of worldwide commercial aircraft. ••• Simon Ritter, Deputy CTO, Azul Systems ••• Simon has been in the IT business since 1984 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Brunel University in the U.K. Simon joined Sun Microsystems in 1996 and started working with Java technology from JDK 1.0; he has spent time working in both Java development and consultancy. MySQL 32 - FLOAT and DOUBLE Data Types

06:23
FLOAT and DOUBLE data types are data types that can be used to store numbers that can include decimal numbers. They are specifically used to store estimates. What do I mean? I mean that the precision of a FLOAT or DOUBLE value can be lost when doing math. The data types are only capable of maintaining a certain level of precision. The level of precision is usually adequate for most mathematical operations. If you need to store exact data, you will want to look into using the INT or DECIMAL data type instead. The numbers stored in a FLOAT or DOUBLE column are called floating point numbers, we'll see why in just a moment. Why are they called floating point numbers? let's look at a number. 150. This number could be represented as 150, or it could be represented as 1.5 * 10^2, or 1.5e2. With floating point numbers, scientific notation is used. These numbers are called floating point numbers because the decimal can float to different spots as we change the exponent. This means that the data type needs to store the number, how many decimal the number needs moved, and a sign bit. The benefit of floating point numbers is that they allow us to store pretty huge numbers. The down side is that they are not storing values exactly because they are limited in size. This means that only a certain level of precision is to be expected from a floating point data type. If you remember from the video of DECIMAL, precision is the number of digits in a number. As long as the precision for one of these data types exceeds the need for your specific data, the data type can work fine. For example, if you are storing a number like 15 trillion, you don't have to worry as much with precision as your number does not contain a lot of digits. This number can be represented as 1.5 x 10^13. This is a lot different than trying to store 1.5534534534 x10^13. Now we know both of these data types do not maintain a high number of digits correctly, but what is the difference between FLOAT and DOUBLE. The difference is the amount of storage they take up. Float takes up 4 bytes while DOUBLE takes up 8. The benefit in DOUBLE is that because it has more room to store data, it has a higher level of precision and can store bigger numbers. Now, what level of precision can you expect from either of these? FLOAT around 7 and DOUBLE around 15. Now, these data types are obnoxious because the exact values depend on your operating system and in general these monsters cannot be trusted. Especially when you start doing math with different numbers. In general, it is recommended to use the DOUBLE data type to have a higher level of precision and calculations in MySQL are done with DOUBLE. Always remember… prepare for trouble, make it double. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

The Diabolical Developer's Guide to Surviving Java 9 and 10, with Martijn Verburg

47:25
Java 10 has come hot on the heels of Java 9 which means double the upgrade fun! Java 9 came with a new modularity system (Jigsaw) which has strict restrictions on the runtime and compile time access for of internal libraries (such as sun.misc.Unsafe), a new REPL (JShell), a change of the default garbage collector to G1, and much more! All of this means that Java 9/10 is the most breaking release since Java 5 introduced generics. In this session, the Diabolical Developer presents a pragmatic guide to migrating your apps to Java 9/10 and how to avoid the common pitfalls. He covers how to still gain access to those restricted internal libraries, how to deal with the performance impact of moving to G1, how to split your app to use both the classpath approach and the new modularization approach, and more. Leave this session with the confidence to move to Java 9/10!

Java Random Tutorial (Math.random() vs Random Class nextInt() nextDouble() )

04:26
GitHub repo with examples https://github.com/SleekPanther/java-math-improved-random Random numbers are a common part of many programs and games. (Yeah I know they're not truly "random" but pesudorandom numbers are the best computer can do) There are 2 main ways: Using a static method of the built-in Math class, or creating a Random object & calling methods on that object ➣Math.random() -The "Math" class is built-in (no need to import) so calling "Math.random()" gives you a double from 0 to 1 -Not very useful on its own, but the result it can be multiplied to give a "range" of number -"Math.random()*10" gives a range of 10 so 0 through 9.99999 -The upper bound is always excluded so you'd need to add 1 to get an inclusive range -"(int)(Math.random()*10)" casts the result to an integer -or replace "(int)" with "Math.round()" or "Math.floor()" -You can also change the lower bound by adding a number to the end: (int)(Math.random()*10)+10 yields numbers from 10 to 19 (20 is excluded) int min = 5; int max = 15; int range = max - min +1; -Range must be 1 greater than the range you want since the upper bound will always be excluded (int)(Math.random()*range ) +min -This will give you the desired result -Negative values for min & max still work as long as you still add 1 to the range -Getting decimals just involves removing the (int) casting -You might want to round off the numbers to only display a few decimals ➣Random class -Random generator = new Random(); -Creates a new Random object with reference variable "generator" -don't forget to "import java.util.Random;" -You can now use the formula like this: (int)(generator .nextDouble()*range ) +min -Unfortunately nextDouble() can't accept parameters so you basically just use it like Math.random() -generator.nextInt() give you an integer in the range negative 2 billion to positive 2 billion -But you can also use get an integer in a specific range -generator.nextInt(5) yields numbers 0 to 4 (5 is excluded) -The formula can now be used like this -generator.nextInt(range) + min; Details on Random https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/util/Random.html Editor I used (Eclipse) https://eclipse.org/downloads/

Java Microbenchmark Harness: The Lesser of Two Evils

01:04:17
Measuring the performance is the fine art, and measuring the performance on microbenchmarks is double so. There are multiple caveats one should take a great care of while designing the experiment involving microbenchmarks. The advanced experience with VM technology is required, the exposure with particular nits on exact VM is also a plus. Some say the benchmarking is inherently evil. We agree with that assertion, but also realize the benchmarking is nevertheless essential, and we need to learn how to benchmark without shooting ourselves in the foot all the time. In this session, we take the crash course in fine microbenchmarking, and introducing OpenJDK's Java Microbenchmark Harness (JMH) along the way. Author: Aleksey Shipilev Aleksey Shipilev is Java SE Performance Engineer working for Sun/Oracle for 3+ years. His primary skills are performance engineering, benchmarking, JVMs, JITs, and class libraries. Aleksey is Oracle technical representative at Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation, responsible for building industry-standard Java benchmarks. Prior joining Sun, Aleksey was employed by Intel where he worked in Apache Harmony performance team for 3+ years.

Java String - Example of Declaring and Initializing Strings and calling Methods - Java Tutorial

02:51
The String data type is for declaring a sequence of characters. String literals are enclosed in double quotes, such as “Java”. A String can be any combination of characters including an empty String, a blank, numbers, digits, symbols and escape characters. String is a class data type, not one of the 8 primitive data types, which means that Strings are objects and not variables. An object consists of data that belongs to the object, and methods (actions) that the object can do. See the Java API for more info on the class String: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/lang/String.html Please SUBSCRIBE to Appficial, and check out more Java Programming Tutorials! http://www.appficial.com The Basic Parts of a Java Program - Class and Main Method Header and Comments https://youtu.be/sHEk2DSBnSg Java Declaring and Initializing Variables https://youtu.be/Ag8ZH5qRzqM Naming Java Identifiers - Variables, Methods, and Object Names - Java Tutorial https://youtu.be/g0NR6Z0ac1A Java Reserved Keywords - Words like public static void class int double https://youtu.be/dklOXLDdeqc Java Primitive Data Types - byte short int long float double char and boolean https://youtu.be/hHTrxfEWPy0 Java Integers - int long byte and short Integer Variables https://youtu.be/FsrIsDSgTiQ Java Floating Point Numbers - float and double https://youtu.be/6JRufRrO1mQ Java E Notation - Doing Scientific Notation in a Java Program https://youtu.be/9tTKa9jEgNs Java Integer Division and Dividing by Zero - Java Tutorial - Appficial https://youtu.be/46Ngr6eczpA Java Basic Math Arithmetic Expressions and Precedence Rules https://youtu.be/IMavhbsbIeQ Java Compound Operators - Combined Assignment Arithmetic Operator Examples https://youtu.be/2TP7XOyCW1o Java Constants - Constant Variables using Keyword Final https://youtu.be/cj_5D8-vrfQ Java Math Class Methods https://youtu.be/Guhb43pivCs Java Type Conversions and Type Casting https://youtu.be/hXxFVXBxQ1Q How to Convert Binary numbers to Decimal Numbers https://youtu.be/g1TOLO2FsvQ Java Characters - The char Primitive Data Type https://youtu.be/LBQrD2nkKQg Java Escape Characters https://youtu.be/jZpSjEGMlUQ Java String Class https://youtu.be/3G9IcmbV4Gs Java Scanner Class https://youtu.be/A1QXB_6ALDA Java Integer Overflow https://youtu.be/lTnUbx5Gi6o Java Style Guidelines https://youtu.be/P7xur0m6-do

J-Spring 2018: Sebastian Daschner - Java Enterprise applications for the hard production life

51:35
Full title: J-Spring 2018: Sebastian Daschner - Bulletproof, resilient Java Enterprise applications for the hard production life Using the Java Enterprise APIs and implementing the business logic is one thing. Running the application against actual production workload and real users is another thing. This session shows which non-functional requirements we enterprise developers need to be aware of to build stable and resilient applications. We will see different resiliency approaches, such as circuit breakers, bulkheads, or backpressure, in action. Monitoring solutions provide insights about the application under production load. Furthermore, we will see, how especially service meshes enable us to add resiliency to multiple microservices in a transparent, redundancy-free fashion. All of the time will be spent live-demoing Java Enterprise applications that are deployed to an Istio cluster. Bio Sebastian: Sebastian is a self-employed Java consultant, author and trainer and is enthusiastic about programming and Java (EE). He is the author of the book ‘Architecting Modern Java EE Applications’. Sebastian is participating in the JCP, helping forming the future standards of Java EE, serving in the JAX-RS, JSON-P and Config Expert Groups and collaborating on various open source projects. For his contributions in the Java community and ecosystem he was recognized as a Java Champion, Oracle Developer Champion and double 2016 JavaOne Rockstar. Besides Java, Sebastian is also a heavy user of Linux and container technologies like Docker. He evangelizes computer science practices on https://blog.sebastian-daschner.com, his newsletter, and on Twitter via @DaschnerS. When not working with Java, he also loves to travel the world — either by plane or motorbike.
