Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom

13:09
Ride the Wald Disney World Railroad's full loop at Magic Kingdom at Disney World. Embark on a relaxing 1.5-mile scenic tour onboard an authentic steam-powered train. Listen to the clamor of the engine, the chug of the wheels and the call of the whistle as you travel aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad. Offering convenient stops at Frontierland, Fantasyland and Main Street, U.S.A., it's the perfect way to preview the magic at Magic Kingdom park and take in the picturesque scenery. The Walt Disney World Railroad is also a handy way to get around quickly and easily. And because the trains are scheduled to arrive at each station every 4 to 10 minutes at most times throughout the day, you never have to worry about waiting a long time to ride one. A Blast from the Past There are 4 meticulously restored, working narrow-gauge trains you can ride, originally built between 1916 and 1928. The Locomotive in the video is Number 4, named after Walt Disney's older brother and business partner, Roy Oliver Disney (1893--1971). Roy saw to the completion of his brother's dream after Walt's death in 1966 and completed the construction of then named "Disney World." Roy renamed the resort to "Walt Disney World" in Walt's honor and died just shortly after the Magic Kingdom opened in late 1971. Roy was offered to have the second 4-6-0 (which is now the "Roger Broggie") named after him, so that the Walt Disney and Roy Disney engines would be alike, but he refused because he "didn't want to be compared to all the great things Walt had done." The Roy O. Disney was the only WDWRR locomotive that was not running at the park on Opening Day 1971. Its restoration was not finished until December of that year, shortly after Roy's Death, thus allowing the company to name the locomotive in his honor. A noted train enthusiast, Walt Disney built his very first railroad in his backyard. The Carolwood Pacific Railroad, a 1/8-scale train, debuted in 1950 and featured a custom-built, steam powered locomotive that encircled his property. Delighted with his miniature backyard railroad, Walt decided to share his love of trains with the whole world. The result was the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad, a favorite of Guests since the park opened in 1955. Today, railroads exist at every Disney park around the globe. Disney World Big Thunder Mountain Railroad POV Magic Kingdom Florida

03:35
Check out this On-Ride, Front Seat POV of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Roller Coaster at Magic Kingdom Roller Coaster in Orlando, Florida. Length: 2780' Inversions: 0 Speed: 36 mph Duration: 3:30 Elements: Lift Hill, Lift Hill, Lift Hill At the Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is almost an identical mirror image of the Disneyland version, except for having an enclosed loading station on a hillside, the replacement of Big Thunder with Tumbleweed, and altered section of layout before the second lift hill. In this version, upon entering the queue, guests make their way up the hillside past old mining equipment to the station building. Once inside, the queue snakes through the upper level of the two level station. Guests can view a panorama of the ride. The queue then travels down a gradual ramp, switchbacks, and reaches the loading station. After a wait, guests enter the 30-45 passenger trains. On the signal of a flashing green lantern at the head end of the platform, the train is clear to leave the station. Leaving the station, the trains immediately enter a dark tunnel and make a tight left hand turn. After a short straightaway during which the sounds of bats can be heard, the trains make a slight right hand turn and climb the first lift hill. A series of caverns can be seen on the right hand side of the lift hill track. At the top, once again, it slows down and riders make a drop away to the left, before making a right hand turn and going over two hops while passing under the second lift hill and second lift hill drop. It is typical to make a flyby with another train during this section. After going under the second lift hill drop (which is a point where it may be possible to see the riders on another train), the trains make a tight downwind spiral to the right into a short tunnel. Emerging from the tunnel, riders find themselves in the abandoned town of Tumbleweed. The Walt Disney World Railroad's track can be seen to the right of the guests. While passing through Tumbleweed, the track goes through several bunny hops, and the train seems to sway from side to side. The swaying is achieved by banking the track slightly. On the left, riders see the wagon of Professor Cumulus Isobar, whose rainmaking machine works too well, and a party being held on the second floor of the flooded saloon. On the right, one sees a remaining resident spinning around in a floating bathtub. In the early years of the ride, the floodwaters in Tumbleweed were much more torrential than they are today. After Tumbleweed, the trains pass through a short tunnel called Dave V Jones Mine, make a left hand turn, and climb the second lift hill. At the top, the train slows down and the riders drop away to the left and cross back under the lift hill as the trains rise up into a 540 degree downhill helix to the left, before going over another airtime hill before dropping back down. The trains make a right hand turn into a tunnel, and climb the third lift hill. An earthquake is in progress and the rocks seem ready to crush and bury the train. In the early years of the ride, the tunnel exit seemed to collapse with falling rocks. Cresting the lift hill, the trains slow down and exit out into the daylight, and drop away to the left heading for the Rivers of America, before they make a left hand turn through a short tunnel, crossing back over the drop, and then drop away to the right through the boneyard and geysers before hitting the final brake run and returning to the station.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Ride POV - Magic Kingdom - Walt Disney World, Florida

03:44
Take a seat on "The wildest ride in the wilderness!!!" Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at WDW 's Magic Kingdom theme park. This attraction is located in Frontierland beside Splash mountain. It is a lot of fun. It is a fairly mild coaster. A good one for little kids or first timers. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (often shortened to Big Thunder Mountain or Thunder Mountain) is an indoor/outdoor mine train roller coaster located in Frontierland at several Disneyland-style Disney Parks worldwide. The ride exists at Disneyland Park (California) and the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Park (Paris) as Big Thunder Mountain. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also the name of the fictional rail line the roller coaster depicts. Although the details of the backstory vary from park to park, all follow the same general story arcs. Some time in the late 1800s, gold was discovered on Big Thunder Mountain in the American Southwest. Overnight, the small mining town of Rainbow Ridge (at Disneyland), Tumbleweed (at the Magic Kingdom), or Thunder Mesa (at Disneyland Paris) became a thriving mining town. Mining was prosperous, and an extensive line of mine trains was set up to transport the ore. Unknown to the settlers, the Mountain was a sacred spot to local Native Americans and was cursed.[1] Before long, the settlers' desecration of the mountain caused a great tragedy, which, depending on the park, is usually depicted to be an earthquake (Disneyland Paris, Disneyland), a tsunami (Tokyo Disneyland), a flash flood (Magic Kingdom), which befell the mines and town, and the town was abandoned. Some time later, the locomotives were found to be racing around the mountain on their own, without engineers or a crew. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was founded in the old mining camp to allow tourists to take rides on the possessed trains. Inspired by real-life Bryce Canyon, the Hoodoos of Big Thunder in Disneyland as seen from the Big Thunder Trail that passes behind the ride. In keeping with the theme, the station buildings on all four versions of the ride are designed to look as though they are the abandoned offices of a mining company from the mid to late 19th century. The mountains themselves are themed to the red rock formations of the American Southwest. The rock work designs on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are based on the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. In the Magic Kingdom version of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and in the Tokyo and Paris versions, the rockwork designs are based on the rising buttes that are located in Utah and Arizona's Monument Valley. Special care was taken by the Imagineers to make it appear that the rocks were there originally, and the track was built around the rocks, unlike a number of earlier mine rides, which were built the other way around (by sculpting the rocks around the tracks). The action of the ride takes place completely in the sagging, rotting tunnels of the mountain. In contrast to most steel roller coasters, where the thrills come from the perception of flying through open air, the thrills on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are meant to come from the perceived instability of the mine and its threats of collapse. Sound effects of a typical locomotive operation are piped into the surrounding scenery to add realism to guests viewing the ride from observation platforms, including the steam whistle sounding, even though there is no whistle displayed on the locomotives. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was designed by Imagineer Tony Baxter and ride design engineer Bill Watkins. The concept came from Baxter's work on fellow Imagineer Marc Davis's concept for the Western River Expedition, a western-themed pavilion at the Magic Kingdom, designed to look like an enormous plateau and contain many rides, including a runaway mine train roller coaster. However, because the pavilion as a whole, was deemed too expensive in light of the 1973 construction and opening of Pirates of the Caribbean, Baxter proposed severing the mine train and building it as a separate attraction. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad project was put on hold again in 1974 as resources and personnel were being diverted to work on constructing Space Mountain over in Tomorrowland, but this delay may have ultimately produced a smoother ride as the use of computers in attraction design was just beginning when the project was resumed. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was one of the first Disney rides to utilize computer-aided design. The attraction first opened at Disneyland in 1979, with the Magic Kingdom's larger version in Florida opening in 1980. Tokyo Disneyland added its own version in 1987 and in 1992, Euro Disneyland (now named Disneyland Paris) opened with Big Thunder Mountain

The Walt Disney World Railroad stops at a station every 4 to 10 minutes, and it is the perfect way to get orientated at the beginning of a fun day at Magic Kingdom Park—or a fantastic place to get away from the action, rest your feet, kick back, relax and enjoy the magnificent scenery. The railroad trains are all meticulously restored antique freight trains. The 4 trains—named Lilly Belle, Roy O. Disney, Roger E. Broggie and Walter E. Disney—were built in the United States around the turn of the 20th century and taken to Mexico. They enjoyed long careers working for the United Railways of Yucatan hauling sugarcane, until they were spotted by Disney scouts in 1969 and brought to Walt Disney World Resort for opening day on October 1, 1971. They have been happily circling the 1.5-mile track around the Park ever since. Walt Disney had a great love for railroad trains. He even built his own miniature railroad at his home in California. It was named the Carolwood Pacific Railroad, and railroad fans will want to check out the Carolwood Pacific Railroad Room at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. Walt Disneyworld Railroad at the Magic Kingdom Orlando

Was on vacation during the Fall month of October 2018 and took some shots of the Walt Disney Railroad. This week they had out the Lilly Bell and the Roger Broggie and later in the evening the Roy Disney was out, which I only got a photograph of. Enjoy the video. The walt Disney Railroad officially went operational in 1971 same year the Magic Kingdom opened at Disney World in Orlando Florida. The railroad was designed by Roger Broggie and he is also the one who helped acquire the steam locomotives which were all originally built by Baldwin Locomotive Works. They came from a scrap line in Yucatan Mexico and there were originally five. Once acquired they were refurbished to operation and made to look like 1880's locomotives.

Come ride along with us on the Walt Disney World Railroad. We board the train at the Main Street USA train station and ride the full length of the track making a full circle around Magic Kingdom. Enjoy the sites, sounds and scenery of this iconic attraction. Be sure to watch out for all the special scenes visible only by riding the train and of course my favorite part, listening to the whistle blow! Did you know that Walt Disney was a train enthusiast? In fact it was when he built his large scale model train in his backyard that he began thinking up ideas that led to the creation of Disneyland!!! The steam engines used in Disneyland and Walt Disney World are actual steam engines from the 1800s that have been meticulously restored. Be sure to check out this legendary attraction with it’s rich history on your next visit. For a similar video of the monorail click here: https://youtu.be/x3CcE8RKTuA
Disneyland Railroad 2017: Steaming Around Walt's Magic Kingdom

19:36
In late July 2017, I made a three day visit to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. This coincided with the end of a long closure for the railroad, which was scheduled to reopen as I boarded my plane home. On the evening of the 26th and morning of the 27th I was able to catch three of the railroad's locomotives undergoing their final test runs before the reopening, hauling empty trains. After entering the park on the 28th, I happened upon the press event "Return of the Disneyland Classics" which was celebrating the reopening of the Railroad and river attractions, and found out that John Lasseter's private locomotive "Marie E" had just left New Orleans Square. I jogged back to Main Street where I caught her and the "Chloe" steaming by, then spent the next twenty minutes jogging back and forth across the park trying to catch them again, but unfortunately they were returned to the roundhouse after only two laps. Shortly after the press event and some preview rides, the Railroad and all Rivers of America attractions were quietly soft-opened to park guests one day early. Despite the lack of any announcement of the opening (cast members were turning guests away less than an hour before) word spread quickly, and while I was able to walk right on one of the first departures the wait times at the stations were reaching 45 minutes by the time we reached Main Street. The feeling of excitement in the park as crowds waved and cheered at passing trains and riverboats and experienced the new routes together for the first time is one I'll never forget, and I'm thankful to have been present for such a historic occasion, especially when I was expecting to miss out by a day. In this video you'll see footage of Disneyland Railroad locomotives 1 "C.K. Holliday", 3 "Fred Gurley", and 4 "Ernest S. Marsh" in action both during testing and hauling guests during the soft opening, with onboard footage filmed during the Marsh's first round trip with passengers. Also included is my one shot of Justi Creek's "Marie E" towing the Grizzly Flats "Chloe" - both previously owned by legendary Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Ward Kimball, respectively. The Disneyland Railroad opened with the park on July 17, 1955 and has operated almost continuously for 62 years, excepting closures to be rerouted as the park has expanded far beyond the original boundaries. In addition to the two 4-4-0s built for the park, the roster has expanded over the years to include three former plantation engines.

Railfanning Florida: The Walt Disney World Railroad

09:59
In the last video of this three-video series, we take a look at a very unique railroad operation. If you haven't already guessed it, we're at the place where dreams can come true. Here in the Magic Kingdom, a 3ft narrow gauge railroad loops around the kingdom hauling park visitors between different areas of the park. We'll see the Main Street, Frontierland, and the Toontown Stations featured in this segment. We'll also be treated to not one, but two beautiful steam locomotives (and yes they are REAL steam locomotives), #3 and #4. This is the Walt Disney World Railroad, like you've never seen before. So sit back, and enjoy the magic of the steam trains. For photos from this part of the trip, click here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/archiveThumbs.aspx?id=41970

Walt Disney World Railroad POV FULL LOOP Magic Kingdom

13:37
The Walt Disney World Railroad is a classic steam train experience the wraps around the Magic Kingdom. The Main Street U.S.A. Station is also what firsts greets guests as the enter the ‘Most Magical Place on Earth’. The Railroad at both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom serve as tribute to Walt’s personal admiration for steam locomotives. The first attraction to be thought up by Walt when first designing Disneyland in California was a steam train that wrapped around the park. When Walt and Herbie Ryman spent an entire weekend coming up with drawings for Roy to take to potential investors in New York, Ryman asked what the park looked like in Walt’s imagination. Walt simply replied, ‘Herbie, I just want it to look like nothing else in the world. And it should be surrounded by a train’ and the rest was history. Years before coming up with Disneyland, Walt envisioned a small park connected to his film studio that would feature a steam train. Walt’s fascination with this antique mode of transportation began when he was a young boy selling concession on the Santa Fe Railroad. Walt himself has recounted that many important moments in his life often took place upon a steam train. The best example is when he was aboard a steam train back to California from New York when he lost the rights to his beloved character, Oswald the Luck Rabbit, to Universal. It was aboard the train that Walt looked forward and came up with some sketches of an adorable little mouse that we’ve all come to love today. When Roy was overseeing the construction of Walt Disney World he called upon Imagineer Roger E. Broggie, who had developed the Disneyland Railroad, and asked the train aficionado to once again construct a steam train to wrap around the park. Broggie, along with a few other Imagineers, purchased five broken down steam trains at a graveyard in Mexico for a total price of $32,750 in the late 1960s. The five trains where then transported to a train yard in Tampa, Florida to be restored. Engineers managed to salvage four trains in the end, while the fifth was discovered to be damaged beyond repair. Three steam locomotives were placed into operation on the opening day of the Magic Kingdom on October 1st, 1971. These three trains were named the Walter E. Disney, the Lilly Belle and the Roger E. Broggie. The fourth train was put into operation in December of the same year and named the Roy O. Disney, who sadly passed away a few weeks later. The Walt Disney World Railroad can be enjoyed as a complete circle tour of the park, and a break from the crowds, or can utilized as easy mode of transportation to get from one land to the next. The railroad features three train stations; the Main Street U.S.A. station at the entrance of the park, the Frontierland Station and the Fantasyland Station that is located in the Storybook Circus area of the land. There are no height restrictions to experience this ride, but please note that strollers must be folded up before boarding. For disabled guests, you must be able to transfer out of an ECV and onto a wheelchair to be able to experience this scenic tour of the Magic Kingdom.
