Color Trends Fall/Winter 2018-2019
The new fall/ winter 2018-2019 color trends from the runways are available to dazzle. The richness expected from fall is definitely on deck, but unexpected shades are changing how people consider their looks for fall and winter. From winter blues to rich autumnal shades, from futuristic metallics to shockingly blaring neons that make an effort to transfer a ray of summer to the gloomy days of fall, the new cold seasons have it all! The future of fashion | The Economist
The fashion industry is on the verge of a tech revolution. Clothes of tomorrow could be designed, fitted and sold to us by technology alone. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy From Gucci to Chanel, Topshop to Primark - Clothes industry heavyweights rely on fashion forecasters for next season's new look. But advancements in artificial intelligence are about to turn their art into a science. Cognitive computing is now able to identify patterns previously inaccessible to humans. It can simultaneously analyse vast amounts of global data - from social media buzz to political polls - making it possible to accurately spot what's hot and what's not. WGSN, the world's biggest fashion forecaster. now uses AI alongside more traditional methods. A move that could reduce forecasting errors by up to 50%. Trend-spotting mistakes can have far-reaching consequences. H&M recently confessed to a $4.3 billion unsold stock mountain. Industry waste costs both profits and reputation. Technology could make the fashion industry more sustainable. By using machine learning, an AI technique, to match supply with demand unnecessary manufacturing could be limited and fashions environmental footprint reduced. Online retailers are cottoning on. In the next two years 75% of fashion retailers plan to invest in AI. But keeping up with tech giants is going to be tough. Amazon is now developing what's believed to be the world's first AI fashion designer. It plans to use an algorithm that designs clothes by analyzing images and copying popular styles - using them to build completely new designs. This technological makeover could hold huge benefits especially for those who like to shop online. A Japanese company has unveiled the Zozo, a body measurement suit that will ensure the clothes you order fits you perfectly. All meaning our future wardrobes could contain clothes designed for us and sold to us by technology alone. FIT Talks | David Wolfe interview | 2018 February 8
SUMMARY: Phyllis Dillon interviews David Wolfe, trend forecaster and Creative Director of the Doneger Group for 27 years. BIOGRAPHY: David Wolfe has worked in fashion industry for over 50 years, and is one of the industry’s most influential trend forecasters. Born in 1941 in Ohio, he took a strong interest in fashion illustration as a young boy. In his first job at Carlisle’s Department Stores, a small family-owned chain in Ohio, Wolfe was given free reign to take on multiple roles, including visual merchandise director, and teen fashion coordinator. He also wrote advertising copy and created fashion illustrations for the advertising department, and worked on their bridle fashion shows. Wolfe there met and married his wife Sheila, who helped foster his career as a fashion illustrator. During a visit to London in the late 1960s, Wolfe landed an illustration job at the prestigious fashion store, Fortnum & Mason. He then worked steadily as a freelance fashion illustrator for the next 20 years, for publications including the London Sunday Times, Womenswear Daily, and Galeries Lafayette. He also began working with Lee Rudd's I.M. International fashion forecasting business, which provided reports for department stores, textile companies, color companies, and designers. After a couple of years working with the forecasting company, IM International, in 1981, Wolfe started his own company, The Fashion Service, which created and sold trend information to designers, and advised merchandisers on what they should buy. In 1990, he joined the New York-based Doneger Group, from which he retired from his position as Creative Director in 2018. See also: http://www.davidwolfetrendfutures.com/bio.html DISCUSSED: In this interview, Wolfe discusses pivotal aspects of his career, the significance of fashion trend forecasting, and his impressions of current fashion trends. He talks about the differences between American and European fashion cultures in the 1960s and 1970s, and discusses the significance of the prominence of pop culture in the current era, and how high fashion serves as art in place of functional design. "Fashion as art is more creative, more liberated, more outrageous, more beautiful [than it's ever been]. But it isn’t rippling down into the real world....there are, like, two separate industries going on." Wolfe also talks about how trend forecasting used to "introduce ideas, or pull together concepts and influences," where today, trend forecasting is "analyzing what's going to sell." The Art of Forecasting, Part One: The Era of Exponential Growth, with John L. Petersen
John L. Petersen, one of the world’s foremost futurists, is founder and president of the Arlington Institute. He is author of Out of the Blue: How to Anticipate Wild Cards and Big Future Surprises, Strategies for 2012, and The Road to 2015: Profiles of the Future. He has worked for National War College, the Institute for National Security Studies, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council staff at the White House. He also serves as chairman of the Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation. Here he points out that everything is connected to everything else. He notes that we are living in an extraordinary, unprecedented time where the rate of change of many phenomena is growing exponentially, and furthermore these developments converge with each other in unexpected ways. The basic framework for keeping track of such accelerating, complex trends is systems theory. Scenario building is also an important tool for futurists. An important trend to watch is that human capabilities are increasing in many domains. He also describes a methodology to help organizations prepare for potential surprises. He anticipates a major phase transition for humanity so that the future will be very different than the past has ever been. New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). His master’s degree is in criminology. He serves as dean of transformational psychology at the University of Philosophical Research. He teaches parapsychology for ministers in training with the Centers for Spiritual Living through the Holmes Institute. It's Fashion o'clock: Мое отношение к украинским дизайнерам

Эти и другие вопросы за круглым столом в редакции FW-Daily обсудили креативный директор Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days Дарья Шаповалова, главный редактор L'Officiel Украина Ульяна Бойко, генеральный директор компании «Фалькон-АВТО» и официальный представитель Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days Нина Васадзе и глава общественной организации «Освитория», основательница Новопечерской школы Зоя Литвин.
