How to Expense Business Travel

04:14
How would you like to take a fabulous trip to an exotic destination and have Uncle Sam pay the bill when you return home? No, it’s not an illegal scheme that will get you in trouble, but a clever hack that allows you to travel around the world for practically nothing. When it comes to traveling, entrepreneurs have the ability to mix business and pleasure. And, here’s the beauty of it: you don’t have to be the CEO of a fancy startup to benefit from tax deductions on your travel expenses. You can turn your blog or passion for photography into a business and write off expenses. For example, if you’ve set up a business for you travel blog, now you can go anywhere in the world and file all expenses on your taxes as a business expense. After all, you’re going there for business reasons – to create new content for your blog. If you’re new to the business world, complying with the tax code may feel like navigating a maze. But, it becomes less complicated once you know what you can write off and what not. For starters, you must ensure that the primary reason for your trip is for business. Otherwise, it would be hard to justify a 7-day trip to the Bahamas when you only have one day of meetings. A clever trick would be to count up the number of business and personal day on your trip. Keep in mind that the majority of days should be for business activities. For example, you could fly to the Bahamas on Thursday, have a meeting on Friday, stay and enjoy the weekend, meet with other clients on Monday and Tuesday, and fly back home one Wednesday. Another thing that you should keep in mind is that you can’t just fly to the Bahamas with a stack of business cards in your wallet and call it a business trip. According to the IRS, you need to have at least one business meeting scheduled before you leave. Otherwise, you won’t be able to write off your expenses. Which Expenses Are Deductible? Here are some of the business travel expenses you can write off your tax bill: Transportation Costs You can deduct 100% percent of your transportation costs, whether we’re talking about bus, car or air travel. Be careful, though: you need to choose the appropriate option to be able to deduct your taxes. While flying first class is admissible, you don’t get away with deducting a two-week cruise you took to arrive at a business meeting. Also, keep in mind that according to the IRS, your home is your regular place of business. So, if you work between Monday and Friday in New Hampshire and fly to South Carolina to be with your family during the weekend, you can’t deduct your travel expenses. Lodging You can claim your accommodation entirely. Don’t forget to ask for an itemized bill when you check out from your hotel. Some costs, like movie rentals or goods from the mini bar, might not be eligible for tax deduction. Meals You can deduct 50% of the cost of meals related to your business travel needs, tips and tax included. If you’re meeting with a client over dinner, you will have to document what business related topics you’ve discussed to pass the audit. Other Expenses Other costs that you can write off include conference fees, equipment rental, dry cleaning and laundry, shipping luggage, business calls, renting a location for a presentation, and registration fees. You can’t deduct the following expenses from your taxes: Family travel costs: You can bring your family with you on a business trip, but don’t expect to be able to write off their expenses. Sure, you can deduct your hotel room because you would have stayed there whether they were with you or not, but you can’t write off their transportation costs and meals. Expenses in your city: You can’t rent a hotel room in your town and expect Uncle Sam to pay for it. Personal extensions to business trips: If your trip was primarily for business, but then you decided to extend your stay and bring your family along, you can only deduct your business-related days. Your daily commute: Transportation to and from your office can’t be write off as a business expense. Lavish meals: Paying $400 for a bottle of wine and ordering only fancy food will probably get the attention of the IRS. Any unreasonable expense: if you can’t justify it, don’t put it on your tax deduction documents. Ansviesulis: Business Travel - Red Eyes and Fatigue

04:33
VIP lounge, champagne and business class all the time! Wrong. If you get fortunate enough to be in a position to build an international business, travel very fast becomes a burden, not a bonus. Countless hours waiting in security lines, half asleep on long haul flights, jet lags on weekends, red eyes & fatigue - that's the true glamour of international hustle. But all for the good cause, right? About me: Entrepreneur, investor, speaker and an advisor. Fresh out of college Matiss started working in JP Morgan in London and quickly realized that working for somebody else s*cks, and working for somebody else in a bank s*cks even more. Having started business in 2012 from nothing, Matiss Ansviesulis grew it to €35M run rate revenue business in less than five years. Essential Items You Need To Pack For A Short Business Trip

Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Grey and Turquoise Green - https://gentl.mn/2H4bHnP OTHER GUIDES YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS! Trench Coat Guide: https://gentl.mn/2qCkind How To Pack A Suitcase For A Business Trip: https://gentl.mn/2qEpGFD What To Wear To An Interview: https://gentl.mn/2H74Ee8 16 Overcoat DO’s & DON’Ts: https://gentl.mn/2H70bno First of all, it starts with a choice of the right suitcase or carry-on. Personally, I'm a big fan of wheels especially four wheels, not the two wheels, because you can easily maneuver them with one hand. Also, I prefer stiffer suitcases so I can put it back on top of it without it collapsing on me. So when you start packing, I suggest to first lay everything out on your bed or maybe on a carpet, on a clean space where we have a good overview. So what shoes to bring for a business trip? Black is the ultimate color. I suggest you go with a black cap toe Oxford. Alternatively, you can also go with a black oxford half brogue or black oxford quarter brogue. A little bit of broguing makes it a little less formal, at the same time, it's perfectly appropriate for everything. Now the second pair to bring is a dark red or oxblood burgundy colored dress shoe. It could either be a tassel loafer and you could travel with that because it's easy to take on and off when you're through security or you could go with a Derby shoe or maybe even an oxford. Next up, I suggest bringing two to three dress shirts. Even if you're just going on a one day trip, there's always a chance that someone will spill something on you and it's much better to have something that you can change into than having to figure out where you can have it dry-cleaned. Next up is a suit. There's probably no other garment that is more business appropriate than a dark suit. If you have to pick one, I suggest to go with a navy worsted suit, ideally single-breasted with notch lapels, either one button or two buttons, side vents, maybe some cuffs at the bottom of pants so they pull down the pants and prevent any potential wrinkles. In terms of weight, I'd go for a three-season weight. If you want just one all-rounder, you can also opt for something with an open weave. That way, you feel the breeze because sometimes when you're in an office environment, it can get quite hot but you know yourself if you're likely to overheat or if you feel cold all the time. When it comes to accessories I think a necktie is essential especially in a classic business environment. If you're a little more flamboyant or if you are maybe independent or in an area where dress codes are a little more relaxed, you can also go with a bow tie, otherwise, I suggest to stay with a classic necktie. A pocket square can really help to make your outfit look more polished. So if you have a white shirt, a white linen pocket squarw especially in a TV fold or a crown fold, it can add a finishing touch. You can find a selection of all kinds of pocket squares as well as regular neckties and bow ties in our shop here. When it comes to cufflinks I suggest to go with a simple pair such as a monkey fist knot cufflink in silver gold. Skip the colored enamel cufflinks as well as the gemstone or diamond cufflinks. Next up is a toiletry kit. I suggest keeping a small bag that you can easily remove at any point in time because sometimes at security, you have to remove it depending on your status. To save on space, definitely go with travel sized items and don't bring your regular size aftershave shaving cream or toothpaste. So last but not the least, something that you don't pack but I suggest you always bring is either a type of overcoat in the winter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip

07:08
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.

Drupal 7 - Advanced Mileage Tracker for All Business Reasons 2017 All Mileage Tax Deductions

25:07
In one of our previous videos we created a basic business mileage deduction calculator. This tool allows us to calculate the mileage we have traveled based on our odometer readings and then applies the standard business trip mileage deduction of 0.535 to the trip miles. This allowed us to calculate the total deduction for that business trip. The problem with this approach to mileage tracking is it does not take into account any medical, moving, or charity trips. This means with our previous application we would not be able to track these expenses. So in this tutorial I decided to go a step further and create a application we can use to track all business trip types. This includes business trips, business related medical trips, business related moving trips, and business related charity trips. This tool allows us to choose what type of trip we are going on, and based on the standard IRS tax rates we can choose which rate the line items are taxed on. This allows us to create a tool to actually calculate many different types of trips on one view table. This tutorial uses the tax numbers for 2017 so these numbers will be accurate during the 2017 tax season. I hope everyone enjoys this tutorial. If you like this video then also watch the video coming out directly after it where we actually use views aggregator plus to actually create a total deductions line below our table to show the exact amount of our deductions. If you like this video, comment, thumbs us, subscribe, and share it with people you think may like it. :)

Business English: Mixing Business with Pleasure!

10:52
http://www.engvid.com Business isn't *all* business! In reality, business and pleasure mix. Are you prepared? Learn the best phrases to make social conversation with your associates. Equally important, find out which topics to avoid! You'll also learn how to eliminate awkward silences, and how to make your clients or colleagues comfortable when speaking with them. Many business decisions and deals are made outside the office or meeting room. Whether you're going for dinner with clients, or you're on a business trip, watch this lesson to learn how to be confident in social situations! Then take the quiz here: http://www.engvid.com/business-english-mixing-business-with-pleasure/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. I'm Jade. What we're talking about today is mixing business with pleasure. So what does this mean? This can mean when you go for a business trip, you also have a little bit of fun while you're there. But it can also mean that when you go out with your clients, it's not all talk about work, work, work, business, business, business. You also get to know each other a bit, maybe have a few glasses of wine or something like that. I don't know what you do on your business trips. But it's not just about work. So I'm going to give you some conversational tips for your next business trip where you may decide to mix business with pleasure. So I've broken it down into different conversation topics. So we'll just go through those, and you will get some questions that you can ask to make yourself a dazzling conversationalist when you're next with your clients. So I was thinking: When do these kinds of business meetings happen? Often, they are in restaurants. So it could be the evening. It could be a lunch meeting. So anyway, you're in a dining situation. You get in the restaurant. What do you say? You can say, "Have you been here before?" Or you might say, "What an impressive/charming/fascinating place!" This one's an exclamation. You're making an observation about the place. If it's impressive, I would imagine that it's quite a fine dining, expensive kind of place. If it's charming, it's original, and you've not really been somewhere like that before. If it's fascinating, what could that mean? Just maybe something unusual for you that you haven't experienced before. If you're the host, and you are taking your client to that place, maybe you want to say something about the place, and the reason why you decided to have your meeting there. You could say, "This is the best seafood restaurant in town." So you're trying to impress your client and show them that you're taking them to all the best places. So you could change seafood. It could be a Chinese restaurant --you know, whatever, wherever you're going. So imagine you are in the restaurant situation. A really common conversation for you to have is talking about food in general, your likes and dislikes, and also making comparisons between countries and cuisine styles from different countries. So here are some questions you might ask. You can say, "Do you like English food?" Well, the joke there is that people around the world say that they don't like English food and it's really bad. So I wouldn't be that hopeful for a very positive answer if you ask that question. When you're looking at the menu, especially if the menu is in a language that you don't understand, you could say, "Could you recommend something?" Often it's quite polite -- at least in British culture -- to let the host decide what you're eating. So you might want to make that offer and say, "Can you recommend something?" You can also ask this to the waiter in the restaurant, as well, if you really don't know what to choose. And here's another general question you could ask about food. So let's imagine your client is from a different country and you don't know much about the food culture of that country, you could say, "What do Italian people like to eat for breakfast?"

10 Essential Travel Packing Tips & Hacks - Minimalist Traveling

How to Pack Light & Smart - Essential Travel Packing Tips for Minimalist Traveling. Audible is offering our followers a free 30-day trial today. Sign up to check out their audio books using our special link: http://www.audible.com/exploringalternatives Want more travel packing tips? Check out this NEW video we made for extra light minimalist travel: https://youtu.be/-PcrLWkxZSk After almost 5 years of travelling, we've come up with our 10 best travel packing tips to help you travel light, save money, and have an easy and comfortable trip. 1. Minimalist Travel Wardrobe We choose clothes that are all in the same colour scheme and style so they can be layered to create different outfits for different situations and climates. In our experience, packing fewer clothes is always best and if you find that you're missing something, like a warmer sweater, you can always pick it up along the way. 2. Water After buying and throwing out countless plastic water bottles on our travels, we finally said enough is enough. It was a waste of money and plastic. So we decided to get a portable water purifier (SteriPEN sent us one) and now we bring our own stainless steel water bottles with us and we purify tap water wherever we are. 3. Books and Guides Books and guides are easily the heaviest things we carry on trips. To downsize the weight in our backpack or suitcase, we try to bring smaller travel journals, we don't bring guide books (we use our iPod and free maps from airports and train stations to get around), and we're starting to try eBooks (free from the library) and audio books from Audible (our video sponsor!). 4. Staying Clean When travelling, there are many times (for us at least) when we don't shower as often as we'd like, maybe a long 48 hour travel leg, or a nasty hostel shower that we don't want to use. To stay fresh between showers, we use dry shampoo (the one in the video is from One Love Organics) and wet wipes (paraben-free). We also always travel with Dr Bronners soap because we can use it for everything: showering, dishes, and laundry. 5. Souvenirs We no longer buy souvenirs for our friends and family. Instead, we try to send postcards to show people we're thinking of them. It's cheaper, less wasteful, and we feel that it's more meaningful overall. 6. Passports We've had a passport stolen, and another damaged by water. We're not messing around with our passports anymore so we carry them in ziplock bags, inside a hidden passport pouch. 7. Food and Snacks Food and snacks at airports and in touristy areas is usually overpriced and not necessarily healthy. We try to pack our own food and snacks as much as possible (sandwiches, granola bars, hummus and crackers, oatmeal, roasted nuts, etc.) but it's important to check the rules about what you can bring and where. 8. Electronics When we're not travelling for work, we try to bring just our iPod touch. We travelled for almost one full year with just the iPod & free wifi, and we did all of our hotel and flight bookings, and even a couple of visa applications on the tiny screen. It's not perfect, but it saves us from lugging around a couple of laptops like we do now. We also always travel with a flashlight. We have a Foxelli headlamp that is USB rechargeable and the battery lasts forever (they sent us the headlamp a couple of years ago and we love it). 9. Reusables Travel has a pretty big environmental footprint and while we haven't quite gotten to the point where we're willing to stop just for environmental reasons, we do try to minimize flying and we travel with reusable containers to limit the amount of garbage waste we're producing. We bring stainless steel food containers (by Onyx), water bottles, and coffee mugs, as well as cloth bags and cutlery. 10. Staying Healthy We use natural remedies like oregano oil, garlic pills, activated charcoal, and essential oils to treat things like food poisoning, cold and flu, diarrhea, headaches, etc. We also bring strong anti-nausea pills because Danielle gets motion sick in cars, planes, buses — even a hammock once!
