Most of us adore beach resorts and go to one of the large saltwater bodies at least once a year. However, we shouldn’t forget that the sea is as attractive as it is wayward. We at Bright Side wondered how a person who happened to be in the open sea should behave. It turns out there are several rules that aren’t at all difficult to remember. Despair is your most dangerous enemy. Don’t give up hope of being saved. There are many stories of people who were found in the open sea months after their disappearance. For instance, 25-year-old sailor Poon Lim, who worked on a British merchant ship, survived alone 133 days in the open sea. After a shipwreck, he managed to find a raft with fresh water, cookies, flares, and a flashlight. Every day, Lim ate only 2 cookies and made 3 sips of water. To avoid muscle atrophy, he even floated around the raft twice a day. As you can see, human possibilities are endless. The main thing is to keep calm and hope for the best. TIMESTAMPS Calm down 0:35 Choose the right swimming style 0:57 Find something that floats 1:37 Take care of clothes 1:55 Decide what you’ll eat 2:16 Provide yourself with liquid 3:01 Save yourself properly 4:02 Don’t lose hope 5:06 SUMMARY: - Panic definitely won’t help you. It can cloud your judgment and make you lose the rhythm of breathing. Therefore, the first thing you should do is to calm down. - The style of swimming you choose determines how long your strength will last. In calm water, it’s better to swim on your back. If waves splash around you, it’s better to swim on your belly. - If you’re in the open sea as a result of a shipwreck or an airplane water landing, there must be plenty of things around you that perfectly keep afloat. It will be even better if it’s a boat or a raft with which ships are equipped. - Remember that open sunlight can be extremely dangerous. So don’t remove your clothes — they’ll protect you from the sun. - If you have rations, divide them into small daily portions. This will make them last for a long time, and you won’t have problems with digestion. - Try to fish even if you have stores of food. After all, fish contain some liquid. - You have to consume the liquid constantly but never drink seawater. - Try to ensure that you always have a couple of empty containers left for collecting rainwater. According to studies, drinking untreated rainwater is safe for your health. - • If you found fluorescein, dissolve it in the water when you see an airplane or ship. It forms a bright spot around you which can be easily seen from the air and from afar. 4 Tips on How to Stay Safe at Sea
How to Stay Safe at Sea Summer is a great time to enjoy the sun and the seaside, but both the beach and the sea can be full of dangers. To stay safe and protect your family you have know how to deal with all kinds of unexpected situations that can happen in the water. So grab a pen and paper and get ready to take note of these general safety rules when it comes to resting at the seaside. Don’t forget to pack all the beach necessities 0:55 You absolutely need to pack a first aid kit with medications for a variety of emergencies, prescriptions and devices like inhalers or EpiPens, sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, coolers with ice, plenty of bottled water, drinks and food. What to do if you’ve spotted a shark 1:44 Statistically, you have more chances of drowning somewhere near the beach or even being struck by lightning than becoming a victim of a shark attack. Still, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Be careful what you wear: sharks can negatively react to bright colors or shiny things. If you've spotted a shark, stay calm and concentrate on getting away and out of the water. Check for signs of aggression indicating that the animal is about to attack. If an attack seems inevitable, take a defensive position. Try to put a solid object between you and the animal. If there’s nothing at hand, the best way to scare a shark away is to scratch at its eyes or gills. How to avoid a jellyfish sting 6:02 Choose an area where you can swim safely. If you know that there are jellyfish around, avoid that place. If you’ve been stung by a jellyfish, get out of the water and stay calm. Don't touch or scratch the place of the sting because there might still be some tentacles attached to your skin. Pour some sea water over the affected area and leave it, don’t dry it off with a towel or anything. Then, pour a generous amount of vinegar over the tentacles in your skin and let it sit for at least half a minute. To relieve the pain, submerge the injured part of your body in warm water (about 110°F). What to do if you've stepped on a sea urchin 8:36 Make sure you’re not feeling any chest pain, nausea, or difficulty breathing. If you are, call emergency services. And if not, start by removing all the spines. Use tweezers to pull them out, especially if the ends of the spines are protruding. If they’re not, you can use hot wax. Once you’re sure that there are no spines left in your body, clean the wound with soap and water. What to do if you’ve been pulled into a rip current 9:50 Before going into the water, check for any suspicious-looking channels. Places with rip currents can be foamier or, on the contrary, quieter than others. If you've still got caught by the current, stay calm, it won't pull you underwater. If you start swimming parallel to the shore, you’ll manage to escape its pull. Music: Better_Than_It_Used_To_Be https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Beach necessities 0:55 What to do if you’ve spotted a shark 1:44 How to avoid a jellyfish sting 6:02 What to do if you've stepped on a sea urchin 8:36 What to do if you’ve been pulled into a rip current 9:50 SUMMARY -You absolutely need to pack a first aid kit with medications for a variety of emergencies, prescriptions and devices like inhalers or EpiPens, sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, coolers with ice, plenty of bottled water, drinks and food. -Never go into the water if there’s a posted warning on the beach. Don’t swim at night or at dawn or dusk. In the extremely rare instance of a prolonged deadly encounter, try to put a solid object between you and the animal (for example, a diving mask or surfboard). Don't stop fighting, this way the shark will get the message that you’re not worth all the trouble. -Pay attention to warning signs and watch for purple flags. That's the international sign that you’ll most likely encounter jellyfish in the water. If you see a jellyfish that’s washed ashore, don't touch it. -Start by removing all the spines. Use tweezers to pull them out, especially if the ends of the spines are protruding. If they’re not, you can use hot wax. Put it on the affected area, wait for it to dry, and pull it off; it’ll take the spines with it. -If you enter the water and feel a strong pull, get out immediately. As soon as the water gets up to your chest, it’ll be practically impossible to break free. If you've still got caught by the current, stay calm, it won't pull you underwater. Original Colour Film of Baker Atom Bomb at Bikini Atoll * July 1,1946
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_testing_at_Bikini_Atoll The nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll program was a series of 23 nuclear devices detonated by the United States between 1946 and 1958 at seven test sites on the reef itself, on the sea, in the air and underwater.[2] The test weapons produced a combined fission yield of 42.2 Mt of explosive power. The testing began with the Operation Crossroads series in July 1946. The Baker test's radioactive contamination of all the target ships was the first case of immediate, concentrated radioactive fallout from a nuclear explosion. Chemist Glenn T. Seaborg, the longest-serving chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, called Baker "the world's first nuclear disaster." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Crossroads Operation Crossroads was a pair of nuclear weapon tests conducted by the United States at Bikini Atoll in mid-1946. They were the first nuclear weapon tests since Trinity in July 1945, and the first detonations of nuclear devices since the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The purpose of the tests was to investigate the effect of nuclear weapons on warships. The Crossroads tests were the first of many nuclear tests held in the Marshall Islands, and the first to be publicly announced beforehand and observed by an invited audience, including a large press corps. They were conducted by Joint Army/Navy Task Force One, headed by Vice Admiral William H. P. Blandy, rather than by the Manhattan Project, which had developed nuclear weapons during World War II. A fleet of 95 target ships was assembled in Bikini Lagoon and hit with two detonations of Fat Man plutonium implosion-type nuclear weapons of the kind dropped on Nagasaki, each with a yield of 23 kilotons of TNT (96 TJ). The first test was Able. The bomb, named Gilda after Rita Hayworth's character in the 1946 eponymous film, was dropped from the B-29 Superfortress Dave's Dream of the 509th Bombardment Group on July 1, 1946, and detonated 520 feet (158 m) above the target fleet. It caused less than the expected amount of ship damage because it missed its aim point by 2,130 feet (649 m). The second test was Baker. The bomb, known as Helen of Bikini, was detonated 90 feet (27 m) underwater on July 25, 1946. Radioactive sea spray caused extensive contamination. A third deep water test, Charlie, planned for 1947, was canceled primarily because of the United States Navy's inability to decontaminate the target ships after the Baker test. Ultimately, only nine target ships were able to be scrapped rather than scuttled. Charlie was rescheduled as Operation Wigwam, a deep water shot conducted in 1955 off the California coast. Bikini's native residents agreed to evacuate the island, with most moving to the Rongerik Atoll. Later, in the 1950s, a series of large thermonuclear tests rendered Bikini unfit for subsistence farming and fishing. Chemist Glenn T. Seaborg, the longest-serving chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, called Baker "the world's first nuclear disaster." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_B-29_Superfortress http://www.atomicheritage.org/history/operation-crossroads

A Man Survived 440 Days Stuck at Sea
You ever looked out at the open sea and thought, “What if I got swept away out there? What would happen to me?” Well, luckily for most of us, this is an unlikely scenario for a typical beach-goer. But this nightmare can come true if you're a fisherman and something has gone terribly wrong on your trip. That's exactly what happened to one man who spent over a year alone out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. His boat had neither a cabin nor any roof. And he even didn't have an anchor since he supposed that the trip wasn't going to take that long... His plan was pretty ambitious: he was going to spend 30 hours in the open ocean. - This trip was gonna be dangerous, and, naturally, the man couldn't hit the water without a second pair of hands. He found a 22-year-old volunteer who agreed step in to. - Alvarenga knew that a storm was rapidly approaching the area, but nothing could stop the fishermen from starting the journey. One good catch would be a week’s-worth of salary. - That’s when the heavy rain started – the storm had reached the men. Alvarenga had to take drastic measures. He dumped all the fish and several thousand dollars-worth of equipment into the ocean. - Several vessels and aircraft started a search-and-rescue operation that lasted for two days. But the weather was gradually getting worse, and it eventually became impossible to keep searching. - Alvarenga and his fishing partner were left on their own. And 5 days later, when the winds had died down a bit, they were 280 miles away from the shore, out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with nothing but blue water all around them. - During their voyage, they fed themselves on raw fish and turtles that they’d caught with their bare hands. They also grabbed birds that were unlucky enough to land on the boat. - But they were getting weak, especially Alvarenga’s fishing partner. Tragically, he did fall ill and wasn’t able to survive. - The fisherman spent months adrift in the ocean. The boat kept going until one day he saw land! It was a small island, Tile Islet, that was part of the Marshall Islands. - It turned out that Alvarenga had traveled almost 7,000 miles before he got to the shore. And he was fortunate to come across the island. - After 11 days of rest and recuperation, the rescued fisherman had recovered enough to fly home to El Salvador. Alert: A B-52 Bomber Shows Devastating Minefield at Sea From Nearly 50 Miles Away
Alert: A B-52 Bomber Shows Devastating Minefield at Sea From Nearly 50 Miles Away A US Air Force B-52H Stratofortress heavy long-range bomber out of Andersen Air Force Base on Guam dropped what appear to be new 2,000-pound derivatives of the Quickstrike-ER (extended range) sea mine during the Valiant Shield exercises in the Pacific, The Drive first reported Wednesday, noting that the mine is powerful enough to bring down even the largest of naval vessels. The weapons used during the drills were, in fact, new one-ton Quickstrike-ER naval mines, Lt. Cmdr. Darin Russell, the Valiant Shield Joint Information Bureau director, confirmed to Business Insider, and the test Monday was the first tactical test of the previously-unseen configuration. Valiant Shield is an exercise designed to strengthen interoperability and communication between the service branches, making it an ideal opportunity to test an asset like the Quickstrike mine, which is deployed from the air for use at sea. Why US Aircraft Carrier Harry S. Truman BACK at Sea, again?
The aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman put back to sea on Saturday, exactly three months after the warship returned home from one the most unique deployments in years. That was a test run of the Dynamic Force Employment plan created by former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to keep potential enemies guessing about where and when carrier crews will deploy overseas. The Truman’s cruise lasted from April 11 to Dec. 16 last year but it included a Norfolk pit stop in July that officials termed a “working port visit” before heading out again. This time, the carrier isn’t expected to wander too far from Virginia. It just completed a routine Continuous Maintenance Availability in Norfolk and as the designated reserve carrier for the East Coast the crew is still in its “sustainment phase.” That means they have to be ready to sail off on a combat deployment, if necessary, so it’s back to training. “Truman is heading out for a scheduled independent steaming event to get the crew’s feet wet after a couple of months home,” Naval Air Forces Atlantic spokesman Cmdr. Dave Hecht told Navy Times. read more:https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2019/03/17/why-the-truman-is-back-at-sea-again/ ► Before Comment , Please connect your tongue to your brain! ► Film credis: US Navy ► This video is made under fair use policy, also this material is made from public published domain for people with hearing and seeing disability. • Watch more videos: ► US Reacts after China's Military Activities Increased in the disputed South China Sea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ37hkEJVqQ ► IMAGINE: In a War with Russia or China, America Could Run out of 'Ammo' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pBxCGFcYHs ► Enemy Shocked: US Air Force Can Attack Anywhere with a Stealth F-22 in 24 Hours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHaK01UUWgQ DISCLAIMER: Information, Facts or Opinion expressed in this Video are Presented as Sources and do not reflects views of US Military and hence, US Military is not liable or responsible for the same. F-35C Conducts First-Ever Operational Test At Sea
Aviation Week was invited to observe the first time the U.S. Navy F-35C conducted operational testing on an aircraft carrier. The test period began Aug. 22 and includes six F-35Cs and 30-40 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. The service selected the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) for OT-1 and the aircraft carrier is operating somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. Test results will help the service determine if the aircraft is ready to achieve initial operational capability in 2019.

How to Survive at Sea and Different Natural Disasters
How to Survive Natural Disasters. No one in the world is 100% safe from natural disasters, and you should know exactly how to save your own life and help others in case you find yourself in a critical situation. Pay attention to the right course of action that will help you to survive and assist those around you. Here are some recommendations about what to do and what not to do in critical situations. How to survive an earthquake 2:11 If an earthquake finds you inside, fall to the floor and use anything nearby that is sturdy and strong: a desk, a bed, or a table as a cover. If there's nothing nearby, crouch in an inside corner of the building. Protect your head with your arms. DO NOT go outside. You’re safer inside the building. DO NOT hide under doorways. It’s not safe. Stay inside until you feel the shaking stop. If you are outdoors, stay clear of buildings, utility wires, streetlights, and other objects that may fall. If you're driving, stop the car immediately, but don't leave it. If you are trapped under debris, don't panic, and don't try to get out on your own. Wait for help. How to survive a tornado 5:28 If you're inside when tornado hits, immediately stop whatever you are doing. Find a shelter. If you can't reach an underground shelter, go down to the basement. If you can't get underground, find a room without windows. It should be the closest to the center of the house and on the lowest floor available. Wherever you are, lie down or crouch on the ground with your face turned down. Cover your head with your arms. How to survive a tsunami 7:34 The first thing you need to do in case of tsunami is move as far away from the shore as possible. Find higher ground. It's best if you can get as high up as 100 ft above sea level. If you live in an area that can be affected by a tsunami, plan an evacuation route. This will help you in a critical situation. How to survive a hurricane 8:20 When you hear an announcement about an approaching hurricane, follow the instructions from the authorities. When the hurricane approaches, stay clear of glass doors and windows. Whatever the reason, DO NOT go outside. Even if you think that the hurricane has passed, stay inside until the authorities confirm that it's safe to leave buildings. After the hurricane is over, DO NOT drink tap water. It may be contaminated with bacteria. TIMESTAMPS Rip current 0:52 Earthquake 2:11 Tornado 5:28 Tsunami 7:34 Hurricane 8:20 SUMMARY -Your primary goal is to get back to calm waters. You should NOT try to swim against a rip current. Try to stay calm and persuade yourself that you have the situation under control. -If you’re inside, fall to the floor and find cover. Stay away from windows, glass objects, outside walls and doors. If an earthquake gets you outside, stay clear of buildings, utility wires, streetlights, and other objects that may fall. -When a tornado hits, find a shelter immediately. If you can't get underground, find a room without windows. If you're driving when you hear a tornado warning, try to get to the nearest building as quickly as you can. -In case of tsunami, move as far away from the shore as possible. Find higher ground. Don’t use tall buildings and high trees to seek shelter from a tsunami. -As soon as you hear a hurricane warning, fill all containers in your home (including bathtubs) with water. When the hurricane approaches, stay clear of glass doors and windows. First Carrier With F-35C Squadron: USS Abraham Lincoln Tests F-35C Lightning II At Sea
What you are witnessing here are some of the very first launches and recoveries of F-35C Lightning IIs from the “Grim Reapers” Strike Fighter Squadron 101 (VFA 101) aboard the flight deck of USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). The Nimitz-Class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln became one of the few ships in the fleet to lunch and recover the F-35C Lightning II, Sept. 3. The launching and recovering of the F-35Cs presented an opportunity for the crew of Abraham Lincoln to work with a new aircraft and play a role in the development of this new fighter jet. Abraham Lincoln is currently underway conducting training following successful completion of carrier incremental availability. Factual, impartial and current. Jon Ronson: "Lost at Sea" | Talks at Google
[email protected] is pleased to welcome Jon Ronson, author of "The Psychopath Test" as well as "Them" and "The Men Who Stare at Goats." He will discuss his latest collection of essays entitled "LOST AT SEA". These pieces center on the idea of everyday people who find that ordinariness is not quite enough and look to the absurd to find whatever it is they think they're missing -- aliens, robots, game shows, hardcore Christian rap music, psychics...anything slightly out of the realm of the normal that might make a regular guy feel a little more alive.

Mavic Pro almost Lost at Sea ! | Strong Wind Fly Away WARNING
I had a VERY stressful flight with my DJI Mavic Pro while on Vacation in the Caribbean. It made for some great footage, but I had no idea how windy it can get near certain areas of the island! I should not have flown so far away! What I learned from this experience is to make sure sports mode can be activated easily. For some reason sports mode was disabled, which meant turning it on with the controller did nothing. I knew how to turn it back on, but during the stress of the situation, and sitting in the sunlight, its hard to see the screen. I definitely would love to go back to Grand Turk, because the wind seemed a lot calmer vs when I was at Sint Maarten and Saint Kitt. In the future I certainly know to take note of wind speeds, even if it is not windy in my current position. Will also know not to fly so far away. Victory At Sea - Episode 26 ~ Design For Peace (Complete Episode)
DESIGN FOR PEACE Surrender of Japan & aftermath of war Release Date: May 3, 1953 ... (Episode #26) The last episode in this award-winning historical documentary starts with the Atomic Age. Two bombs were dropped on two of Japan’s largest industrial cities. First at 8:16am on August 16, 1945, the “Big-Boy” bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. 78,000 Japanese perish. Three days later, the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki with 24,000 more killed. Japan surrenders unconditionally. In early September, Allied ships from all over the world sail into Tokyo Bay for one last mission; the finalization of Japan’s surrender to the Allied powers. First a token landing by the 2nd Battalion of the 4th Marines, the same troops that were wiped out in Bataan, test the Japanese resistance. There is none. Japan surrenders completely and over 1 million American soldiers are spared. On Sept. 2, 1945, abroad the battleship USS Missouri, the formal surrender of the Japanese empire is completed with the Japanese leaders including Emperor Hirohito. Admiral Halsey sends one final message throughout the fleet, “Cease Fire. Cease Fire. The War Is Over.” He also adds, “Well Done!” The occupation now begins. For everybody else, the sailors, soldiers, marines, and the victors are all headed home. The Allied powers prevailed in the greatest war of all. And in all the Allied lands, there is one last victory parade. A parade for all those, who marched into battle to fight against tyranny and helped liberate those who were suppressed by the Axis powers. One last parade for those who had conquered.

Zircon missile: most dangerous Russian weapon at sea
German experts came to the conclusion that Russia's Zircon missile sea-launched complex represents a real threat to warships of different countries. Hypersonic cruise missile Zircon 3M22 will become the main weapon of the Russian navy. The missile has a range of about 600 kilometers and is capable of reaching speeds six times the speed of sound. German experts also recalled the modernisation of the Russian battle cruisers Admiral Nakhimov and Peter the Great, which are said to be armed with state-of-the-art S-500 air defence systems and Caliber cruise missiles. The Zircon missile will enable the Russian fleet to destroy almost any foreign warship and will pose a particular threat to US aircraft carriers. The Zircon has been under development since 2011. The speed of the missile will reach nearly 7,500 kilometres per hour. In two and a half minutes, it will cover a distance of up to 250 kilometres. No system in the world can intercept a missile flying at such a speed. For example, British missile defences can shoot down missiles at speeds of up to 3,700 kilometers per hour.
