Desperate to escape conflict and poverty, thousands of migrants and refugees attempt the perilous journey to Europe each year, with many crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa in rubber dinghies and wooden boats. In the wake of the decommissioning of Mare Nostrum, a search and rescue operation run by Italy, the humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), launched their own vessel, named the Bourbon Argos, to find those stranded at sea and save those in trouble on one of the deadliest routes to Europe. On board the vessel, refugees and migrants are provided with medical aid, food, and shelter, then brought safely to Italian shores. Having survived life in Libya, ruthless treatment by smugglers, and horrific conditions aboard flimsy boats, once aboard the Bourbon Argos they face yet more uncertainty as they approach Europe. VICE News teamed up with MSF to document these search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean and speak to rescued refugees and migrants, hearing about the suffering they have endured in their attempts to reach a new life. April 13th 2011, Birmingham UK. My father and I start our long road trip down to Trieste, Italy. We will cross 7 countries: England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria and finally Italy. We split the trip into two days, the first driving on the more direct routes with a stop for the overnight in Germany, just south of Frankfurt, the second part we decided to take a new and more scenic route crossing the Alps into Italy. The video is accelerated and I apologise for the low quality.. but hope you enjoy it and that it may give you a little feel of the wonderful time I spent with my father on the road.

We drove back to the ocean and based ourselves in Vico Equense for 4 days. On one of these days we took a bus to Positano, one of the Amalfi coast's many towns - the most popular, too. Positano... hah, more like "Posita-no you can't swim here this is a private beach" But seriously, there's only about a 10m² area of the beach that you can freely use. Wow I sound like an angry dad on Trip Advisor. Nevertheless, Positano's a rly cool place - you should visit :) I would've liked to have seen more of this region, but you know how the saying goes, 'time flies when you've crammed an overly ambitious list of locations into a 3 week road trip and end up staying a maximum of 3 nights in each place' Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/joelthorpe Music by Pools https://soundcloud.com/iampools Words by David Steindl-Rast

Europe is NOT as expensive as people make it seem to be!!! I've spent more than 1 year of my life in Europe, visiting every single country on the continent, and I promise you it's not as expensive as you think... Traveling around Europe can EASILY be done on $30/day, as long as you prioritize your expenses. No more excuses! Anyone else agree with me? My epic 27 day solo motorcycle trip around the whole of Italy during the summer of 2015 on my BMW R1200GS Adventure. I traced as many of the routes I could in a book that was gifted to me before the summer called "Italia in moto". It took me off the main roads and far away from the bustling tourist cities and commercial centres. Instead, I found myself surrounded by the magnificent and breathtaking landscapes of this wonderful country. From backroads and country lanes to the odd hop on the highway where necessary, I visited and rode through Tuscany (Toscana), Napoli (Naples), Amalfi Coast, Sicily, the stupendous Abruzzo and the stunning Italian Dolomites (I dolomiti). I clocked over 14,000km in 27 days having started in Birmingham (UK) and finishing the trip back in Mestre, Venice. As always, I left thinking that the landscapes and the ride itself would be the peak of my experience, and always, what made my heart glow and my smile break the most was the persistent goodness and generosity of those I met along the way. From long conversations at petrol stations, being invited unexpectedly by a family during Ferragosto to a helpful mechanic who dropped everything to assist me when my bike needed repairing. These experiences and many others did nothing more than heighten my trust in the goodness and generosity that still exists in people. I cannot begin to thank the people I met, and I pray that I get the opportunity to see them again and return their generosity in kind. I really hope you enjoy the video, and if you've got two wheels, then do as the fellow Youtube biker brother "Halfthrottle" said: "Ride far, and do it soon!" Music used (in order): Tracks used 1. http://tourvideos.com/ Rome to London by train, featuring the best of Italy, Switzerland, France and England. Jump to the different cities or watch it all: Rome at 2:34; Florence at 8:43; Venice at 16:53; Lucerne at 22:42; Paris at 27:50; London at 34:10; Comments at 44:39 Rome highlights include lunch at Campo dei Fiori and a walking tour to the Pantheon, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Vatican Museum and St. Peters, best of Europe. Florence is always listed in the world’s top-ten places to visit because of the Renaissance tradition we still see in the architecture, and the overall beauty of the city, not to mention great restaurants. Our walking tour with local guide brings us to the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and across the Arno River to Oltrarno. We also enjoy steak at il Porcospino, a favorite restaurant, with a most friendly waiter, Franco. Venice is the city of dreams, a place like no other, with water for streets and boats for cars. Our several walking tours bring us into the heart of town including: Rialto, San Marco, the Basilica, hidden restaurants, and of course, a gondola ride. Lucerne is an ideal town to visit on your trip through Switzerland, with a lovely pedestrian zone, historic buildings in the typical style, waterfront cafes and views, and nearby mountains including Titlis, which we ascend in this journey. Paris, perhaps the world’s most beautiful city, including: TGV arrival, walk to the Opera, Chartier dinner, stroll to Rue Montorgueil, open-top bus tour, Versailles, the Louvre, Latin Quarter and more… London, capital of England, is our globe-trotting filmmaker’s favorite city, and this summary demonstrates why this city is so compelling. We bring you all over the center of town, including Soho, Covent Garden, Regent Street, Oxford Street, Burlington Arcade, Fortnum & Mason, Changing the Guard, open-top bus tour, Inns of Court, The City and the Tower of London. Comments: An ideal Europe trip should include the major cities of London, Paris and Rome, along with a look at Switzerland in Lucerne, and the other greatest of Italian places, Florence and Venice. We summarize the journey with comments from our travelers about their favorites and general feelings about the trip, travelling by train and staying in each city for several days.

In May of 2009 my family, my friend Chris, and myself set out on an amazing and unforgettable 2 week trip through Europe. Starting in London, our weary group traveled to Paris, Munich, through Austria and Switzerland, into the northern mountains of Italy, along the German/French border, and then finally ended in London once again for the trip home. It encompassed every site imaginable in what can easily be considered an extremely short amount of time, and included travel by plane, train, and even the world's most expensive automobile ever made. It was a truly epic journey, visiting some of the most amazing sites and most breathtaking scenery one could ever imagine. Appendages were lost, relationships pushed to the edge, and some language barriers left fully intact. Yet still, ask any one of the brave souls who endured the trip, and I assure you only a memory of one the most eventful and wonderful vacations imaginable are left most prominent. I only hope it doesn't take long for me to visit that historic and beautiful continent once again, and hope that my videos might inspire you to take the plunge and visit Europe for yourself. A journey from Milan to Zurich by ETR610 EuroCity train, showing the train and the scenery. The train travels via Como, Lake Lugano, and the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the world's longest rail tunnel. For practical information including times, fares & tickets see https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/etr610.htm Those of us who remember the drama of the old Gotthard Tunnel route through the high Alps will find this a disappointment, now that the most scenic hour has become 20 minutes in the new Gotthard Base Tunnel. But as the video shows, those who don;t know what they're missing will find it a scenic and enjoyable journey on excellent trains, past lovely Swiss & Italian lakes.

We cover activities you won't find in a typical Rome tourism brochure, Rome itinerary or Rome, Italy city tour also known as Roma Italia. 20 Things to do in Rome, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (ROMA) Rome, the Eternal City. After several trips to Italy, we finally managed to visit our biggest oversight: the capital! From wandering through Roman ruins to devouring pizza, and climbing up lookout points to feasting on gelato, in this travel guide, we’re going to share with you 20 things to do in Rome, Italy: We reached Roscioli which was the best pizza in Rome. Pizzas are served by the weight and we sampled 7 different pizza slices. We stopped at Largo di Torre Argentina an archaeological site home to four different temples containing parts of the portico of Pompey. It was a short walk to the Pantheon, a former Roman temple turned church, which dates back to the year 125 AD. The Pantheon boasted the world’s largest cupola up until the 15th century, and it is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in existence to this day making it one of the greatest architectural achievements by the ancient Romans. If you want to find the best gelato, look for colours that are muted with small batches. One of the many things to do in Rome, was to visit the Trevi Fountain. This is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Rome’s most famed attraction is the Colosseum and its surrounding ruins. We started our visit on Palatine Hill, the most central of Rome's seven hills. What visitors see today are the ruins of the Palace of Domitian, a 1st-century complex, which served as the main imperial palace for 300 years. We continued to the Roman Forum. This square was the centre of ancient Roman life, with government buildings, temples, and markets. We reached the Colosseum, which was the largest amphitheatre ever built and could hold an estimated 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. Walking through the Vatican Museum was more overwhelming than enjoyable. We visited Vatican City to climb St. Peter’s Basilica for views of Rome. Castel Sant’Angelo was commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. Villa Borghese is the 3rd largest public park in Rome with gardens, villas, and ponds with views of the city overlooking Piazza del PO-polo, the people’s square. That concludes our tour of Rome showcasing the many things to do in Rome on your own trip. This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine. Music by DJ Quads: https://soundcloud.com/aka-dj-quads

■ SICILY, ITALY: After driving the length of mainland Italy and across the island of Sicily, it was time to make my way back up towards the North. I didn't feel like driving the same route back so took to the internet. There i quickly discovered that there are boats from Palermo back to the mainland. Problem solved!

For honeymooning couples, sometimes the best way to experience a destination is to go off the beaten path, and in this case, by rental car! From twisty ancient roads to one of the best highway systems called the Autostrade, an adventure is in the making when you discover places not accessible by train or bus. The idea of renting a car in another country can be daunting, but with the help of Auto Europe, it was smooth sailing every step of the way -- including a free GPS rental, information on obtaining an international driver's license, quick customer service, and seamless pickup at the airport. Because of our rental car (and our pals at City Wonders Tours), we were able to find fun hidden gems otherwise unknown. We had 7 days to drive the motorhome back to Toddington to the Just Go offices. To make things cheaper and as a true test for our future plans, we also decided we should, A) Avoid Toll Roads and instead, take "Tolle Roads" and enjoy the Scenery B) Stay in Aires and Sastos where possible C) preferably find ones with free electic. D) Drive a little every day, and E) Have Duane work every work day week as close to work hours as possible! Let's just say we needed a holiday from this holiday! We naturally took our camera's along and attempted to record the events, sites, sights, and routes of the trip. Hope you enjoy, and please Like, Comment and Subscribe! Tickets from Paris to Milan or Turin start at just €29 - for information or to buy tickets online see https://www.seat61.com/Paris-to-Milan-by-TGV-train.htm A beginner's guide to travel from Paris to Turin or Milan by high-speed TGV train, showing the train interior & exterior, the scenery and the food on board. Three daily French TGVs link Paris Gare de Lyon with Turin and Milan, from €29 one-way booked direct with French Railways. The video shows the 14:41 from Paris arriving Turin 20:13, Milan Porta Garibaldi at 21:50, with an easy connection from London St Pancras by Eurostar. The video was taken in June, and there was still snow on the highest peaks - the weather wasn't great on this occasion, overcast with brooding clouds, the route looks far better in proper summer sun or winter snow! Fans of BBC Top Gear may recognise a shot or two in this video - I supplied a few clips to the Beeb for their Wembley to Milan TGV-versus-Mustang 'race' first shown in February 2013.

Travel video about destination Genoa in Italy. Genoa is the fifth largest city in Italy. Once a European Capital Of Culture, the city has an historical centre and harbour, as well as palaces, churches and narrow streets. We begin our tour of the city in the Villa Del Principe, a palazzo that was built for famous Admiral Of The Fleet, Andrea Doria, and created by Perino Del Vaga, a pupil of Raffael. At the harbour, the Commenda Di Pré became the crusader‘s hospice of the Order Of Jerusalem, which was followed by the Maltese Order of Knights in the fifteenth century. The Palazzo San Giorgio is the original seat of one of Italy’s first banks and was where Marco Polo was captured and from where he dictated his travels in China. Porto Antico has been transformed into a fine leisure centre. A biosphere was created, designed by leading architect, Renzo Piano. An extraordinary tropical greenhouse contains parrots and small reptiles. Palm trees adorn the promenade which has always been a popular destination for a relaxing stroll. Close to Via San Luca is the Palazzo Spinola, former residence of the noble Spinola Family, it has many original features. Today it is the Galleria Nazionale featuring the works of international masters and also prominent Genoese artists. The famous Staglieno Cemetery is located near the station. It is also tantamount to being an open-air museum of sculpture. The splendour and vibrancy of the memorials is unique, a glorious necropolis. Genoa is portrayed in the cemetery as a cosmopolitan port city in which all religions are accepted in death. The capital of the Liguria region has always been the Gateway To The World, a mediaeval naval power made rich by maritime trade. Genoa, dominator of the seas, is a metropolis in transition, a city that appeals to all of the senses! -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. More than 13,000 people have made the dangerous journey from North Africa to Italy across the Mediterranean this year. Thousands have drowned doing so. Before they even get to the boats in Libya, many will have travelled for up to 6 days in the Sahara, in extreme temperatures. The starting point in the desert trek is Agadez, in Niger. I learnt a lot of things during this trip which eventually helped me to shape my budget travelling in more organised way. Interestingly, I managed all the expenditures during my 15 days long trip in just Rs. 10,000 (INR). You must read my blog to know how I made this possible. Here is the link http://www.touristhelpline.com/i-travelled-europe-in-10000/ Based on the experience of that trip, I am going to share some information which may be very helpful for everyone who is planning to do a Europe trip, especially for the first timers. The inputs are broadly based on these topics - 1. Which are the best countries in Europe for a budget traveller? (After watching this video and other ones coming up in this series, I am sure you will know that travelling in Europe is no more a costly affair) 2. Which are the cheapest flights from India to Europe? (I have shared some tricks which will help you to get cheap flight tickets to Europe) 3. What are the visa formalities to visit European countries? (Though you are required to do a bit of paperwork to get the visa but all the hard work pay at the end. After getting THIS visa you can visit almost 26 countries) My blog: touristhelpline.com Contact me - facebook.com/page.mountaintrekker/ You'll like the playlist based on my recent hitchhiking trip in Thailand - https://goo.gl/dOUJck

Europe Trip! Here is my video from my family’s trip to Europe! We visited Amsterdam, Netherlands, in which we saw the Anne Frank House, took a boat through the canals, visited the Van Gough Art museum, walked through the Red Light district and much more! Then we took a train to Paris, France and of course saw the Eiffel Tower (At night when it sparkled and during the day!) we took the trip up the Eiffel Tower and got to see incredible views, went inside the Notre Dame, hiked up to the top of a church and did a lot of sight seeing! Then we were off to Interlaken, Switzerland which was INCREDIBLE. We first came in and we’re astonished by the views and mountains we were surrounded by. We went up the Harder Kulm and saw unbelievable views from the top, and later that day went to go see breathtaking waterfalls. The next day we went 4 wheeling all around the city and later went kayaking in Lake Brienz. Switzerland was incredible and everywhere you looked there was a sight to see! And the last country we were off to was Italy! First stop: Venice! Such a beautiful city with not a single car down the old streets. We took water taxis everywhere and enjoyed walking around admiring all of the old buildings. When in Venice, we went to Burano & Murano (which I accidenly put in the Rome section of the video oops!) Lastly, we took a train to Rome!! We got to see the pope and go inside the Vatican for which of course my GoPro died so I included some phone videos lol and later that day we went to the collesium and saw the ancient ruins around Rome. The next day we did the Vatican museum. I hope you enjoyed this video and I am so extremely great full to have been able to go on this trip, I learned a lot about different countries and cultures and had an experience of a lifetime that I will never forget! ~ Hope you guys enjoy this video! 🇳🇱 🇫🇷 🇨🇭 🇮🇹 This was filmed with a GoPro Hero People Featured: Mom, Dad, & Brother lol ***I do not own any of these songs*** Songs Used (21:18) Tongue Tied/Grouplove, Best Day of My Life/American Authors, Walking On Sunshine/Katrina & The Waves, On Top Of The World/Imagine Dragons, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough/Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Send Me On My Way/Rusted Root, Home/Edward Sharpe, Alright/Supergrass Check out my instagram @mayabonghi for pictures!
