Then, gtkreposetup is the GTK counterpart to the console reposetup tool, and which you can use to select your preferred repository mirror. Xfce has been upgraded to 4.12. The main browser has been changed back to Firefox. The Firefox package now also includes langpacks for the most popular languages too, so it will most probably also be presented in your native language without having to install anything extra. Also, network configuration is now handled by NetworkManager, instead of Wicd, which would also help people connect using their mobile 3G/4G connections. Pulseaudio is now controlling the audio output by default, which should help a lot with bluetooth speakers, HDMI audio etc. Other than that it's mostly the same as in previous releases, with LibreOffice, Claws-Mail, Gimp, Parole, Transmission, Viewnior, Zim etc. Everything has been upgraded to their latest release at this point. Older processors are too slow and the AMD K7 has problems with Flash video. Hope you found it informative and useful. Any questions or comments are welcomed. Arch Linux is an independently developed Linux distribution targeted at competent Linux users. It uses pacman, its home-grown package manager, to provide updates to the latest software applications with full dependency tracking. Arch Linux uses a rolling release model, such that a regular system update is all that is needed to obtain the latest Arch software. The installation images released by the Arch team are simply up-to-date snapshots of the main system components. The default install provides a solid base that enables users to create a custom installation. In addition, the Arch Build System (ABS) provides a way to easily build new packages, modify the configuration of stock packages, and share these packages with other users via the Arch Linux user repository. Arch Linux Website: https://www.archlinux.org/ Download Arch Linux ISO: https://www.archlinux.org/download/ Arch Linux Minimum System Requirements Arch Linux should run on any x86_64-compatible machine with a minimum of 512 MB RAM. A basic installation with all packages from the base group should take less than 800 MB of disk space. As the installation process needs to retrieve packages from a remote repository, a working internet connection is required. What is GNOME Desktop? GNOME is a desktop environment that is composed entirely of free and open-source software. GNOME was originally an acronym for GNU Network Object Model Environment. Its target operating system is Linux, but it is also supported on most derivatives of BSD. GNOME is developed by the GNOME Project. Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS will follow it early next year. Ubuntu LTS releases come with 5 years of ongoing package updates, bug fixes, hardware improvements, and security patches. A point release is an updated version of the LTS installation image that rolls together all of these updates. This helps to reduce the number of packages and patches that a user has to download after installation. It also ships with a new hardware enablement stack (HWE). This is composed of a recent Linux kernel release, graphics drivers (including mesa 17) and display server. The updated hardware stack in Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS brings Linux 4.10 kernel with it. This is the same kernel available in the Ubuntu 17.04 release. As with all kernel updates this offers improved hardware support, particularly for newer devices, as well as performance improvements, and better power management. The next HWE will likely ship with the kernel from Ubuntu 17.10, which at the time of writing is looking like Linux 4.13. Ubuntu Website: https://www.ubuntu.com/ Download Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS ISO: https://www.ubuntu.com/download Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS Desktop Minimum System Requirements - 700 MHz processor (about Intel Celeron or better) - 512 MB RAM (system memory) - 5 GB of hard-drive space (or USB stick, memory card or external drive but see LiveCD for an alternative approach) - VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution - Either a CD/DVD drive or a USB port for the installer media - Internet access is helpful Hope you found it informative and useful. Written completely from scratch, ReactOS is not a Linux-based system and it shares none of the UNIX architecture. The main goal of the ReactOS project is to provide an operating system which is binary compatible with Windows. This will allow Windows applications and drivers to run as they would on a Windows system. Additionally, the look and feel of the Windows operating system is used, such that people accustomed to the familiar user interface of Windows would find using ReactOS straightforward. ReactOS 0.4.6 is a major step towards real hardware support. Several dual boot issues have been fixed and now partitions are managed in a safer way avoiding corruption of the partition list structures. ReactOS Loader can now load custom kernels and HALs. Printing Subsystem is still greenish in ReactOS 0.4.6, however Colin Finck has implemented a huge number of new APIs and fixed some of the bugs reported and detected by the ReactOS automated tests. What is Cinnamon Desktop Environment? Cinnamon is a desktop environment that is based on the GTK+ 3 toolkit. It was released in 2011. Cinnamon originally started as a fork of GNOME Shell, thus initially as a mere graphical shell of the GNOME software, but became its own desktop environment in Cinnamon 2.0. Cinnamon was developed by the Linux Mint distribution, with wider adoption spreading to other distributions over time. Hope you found it informative and useful.
