https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-11gr2-rac-for-beginners A computer cluster consists of a set of loosely or tightly connected computers that work together so that, in many respects, they can be viewed as a single system. Unlike grid computers, computer clusters have each node set to perform the same task, controlled and scheduled by software. The components of a cluster are usually connected to each other through fast local area networks, with each node (computer used as a server) running its own instance of an operating system. In most circumstances, all of the nodes use the same hardware and the same operating system, although in some setups (i.e. using Open Source Cluster Application Resources (OSCAR)), different operating systems can be used on each computer, and/or different hardware.

Read the Blog: https://www.calebcurry.com/blogs/database-clustering/intro-to-database-clustering Get ClusterControl: http://bit.ly/ClusterControl In this video we are going to be discussing database clustering and how to manage database clusters with ClusterControl. Database clustering is when you have multiple computers working together that are all used to store your data. There are four primary reasons you should consider clustering. Data redundancy, Load balancing (scalability) High availability. Monitoring and Automation That is an intro to a few of the reasons having a cluster is a good idea. Obviously, not everyone needs a cluster. A cluster can be overkill. But the best way to know is to learn more about them, so I’ll see you in the next video! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle Solaris Clusteroracle-solaris Its been a while since I wrote an article. In the previous tutorial, I installed Oracle Solaris Cluster packages. In this one I am gonna continue with configuring Oracle Solaris Cluster. As mentioned earlier, this is a two-node cluster built on SPARC servers. Requirements We have two servers each with following hardware and software. SPARC S7-2. 254 GB RAM. 5 Ethernet Interfaces (net0, net1, net2, net3 & net4). 4 Disks, each of around 500 GB. Oracle Solaris 11. OSC repository ISO image. Howto Let us proceed with the configuration. We need to make sure that cluster services are disabled or offline. Execute the following commands to make sure that they are. svcs -x oracle-cluster-svcs “svcprop” command for RPC Bind service should give “config/local_only boolean false” output. Verify it using the command like so. svcprop network/rpc/bind:default | grep local_only In case the value comes as “true” then follow the steps as shown to make it otherwise. svccfg select network/rpc/bind setprop config/local_only=false quit svcadm refresh network/rpc/bind:default Next we proceed further with setting up Oracle Solaris Cluster. dladm show-phys oracle-cluster-dladm From the output, I chose interfaces net2 and net3. Notice that no IPs have been setup on those two interfaces. We bring up both the interfaces like so. ipadm create-ip net2 ipadm create-ip net3 oracle-cluster-create Let us run the cluster wizard. /usr/cluster/bin/scinstall oracle-cluster-wizard oracle-cluster-wizard oracle-cluster-wizard oracle-cluster-wizard oracle-cluster-wizardoracle-cluster-wizard oracle-cluster-wizard I skipped adding disks to the cluster which I will be doing in a separate tutorial. oracle-cluster-wizardOnce the setup completes, the cluster wizard with reboot both the nodes as part of its finishing move. Once the nodes come up, cluster status can be verified using the command like so. /usr/cluster/bin/cluster status oracle-cluster-wizard Thus were the nodes got married. https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-11g-advanced-dba DBA Genesis provides all you need to build and manage effective Oracle technology learning. We designed DBA Genesis as a simple to use yet powerful online Oracle learning system for students. Each of our courses is taught by an expert instructor, and every course is available on demand. A listener is a separate process than your database processes which runs on the database server to accept incoming connections. Any client connection first lands on to database listener and then its handed over to the PMON process. All the databases running on a server must have their services registered with the listener or else listener will not be able to accept the incoming connections.

What is Oracle Real Application Cluster? - IT Shorts Series You go to a bank. And there is a teller. Actually there is only one teller. What happens? All the people wait in line. The teller acts as an interface between the client and the bank's documentation system. Right? Now imagine, there are two tellers. The queue can move faster. Why? Because two tellers can serve more people than one teller in a given time. However, both the tellers would access the same bank's documentation system. Now, imagine a regular, standalone Oracle database system. One database server, Talking to one storage device where the database is stored. And that server serves the clients. Now, let me add one more database server. And make this server to access the same database stored in that same storage device. Now, two servers can serve those clients more efficiently. If one server goes down, the service is still online. Because the other is still serving. This is called Oracle Real Application Cluster. Oracle Real Application Cluster can address scalability and high-availability requirements of an organization.

Oracle Solaris Clusteroracle-solaris Its been a while since I wrote an article. In the previous tutorial, I configured IPMP, which is basically NIC bonding in Linux terms. Today, its about installing and configuring Oracle Solaris Cluster. This is a two-node cluster built on SPARC servers, couple of NIC interfaces on each server and a bunch of hard disks. Howto I am logged in both the nodes as root user. If you have DNS configured, see to it that the nodes are able to resolve each other. In my case, since I do not have DNS, I have placed entries in “/etc/hosts” on both of them. In order to configure a cluster, we first need to configure repository and install necessary packages. The next series of steps should be configured on one node only. I picked node 1 for this cluster setup. You are free to do your own “eeni meeni myni mo“and pick your node. At the time of the write-up, I downloaded “osc-4.3-repo-iso.zip” from Oracle, unzip ISO image inside it and mounted on “/mnt“. I have included the procedure to create a device and mount ISO image on it, in this Clustering video. Now that the image is in place, we build the cluster repository using the following commands. pkg set-publisher -g file:///mnt/repo ha-cluster Once the repository is loaded, we can verify like so. pkg publisher oracle-cluster-repoAs it can be seen, the default Solaris repository and cluster repository are online and ready for next phase that is, installing the cluster. pkg install –accept ha-cluster-full #”–accept” is for accepting license terms and conditions. A successful installation should give the following output. Get more tutorials on http://www.nixfury.com

Diagnosing and resolving Oracle RAC database problems has required extensive knowledge not only of database internals but networking, storage and O/S interactions. Frequently, these issues needed to be escalated to Oracle Support Services delaying their resolution. New in Oracle Database 12c Release 2 is the Cluster Health Advisor that continuously analyses database ASH/AWR data and network, storage and O/S metrics to provide early warning and targeted resolution to over a hundred database issues. This session will explain its adaptive learning and prognostics design and use of this new feature including calibration to your workloads. It will conclude with demonstrations of its use with actual issues using the new CHACTL utility and standalone GUI tool as well as integration with Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 13c.
