In this video we're going through the 10 biggest blogging mistakes people make when starting a blog
Email Service We Use to Collect Emails:
1. Do NOT start in a niche you’re not passionate about.
2. Do NOT spend days perfecting your name and mission statement.
3. Do NOT get started on a free blogging site.
4. Do NOT buy a bad host.
5. Do NOT buy crazy expensive all-inclusive software.
6. Do NOT forget to invest in yourself and your business.
7. Do NOT mix business expenses with personal expenses on your credit card.
8. Do NOT forget to keep diligent records of expenses and revenues.
9. Do NOT ignore the power of Pinterest for bloggers.
10. DO NOT GIVE UP!
11. Do NOT put off starting a blog any longer!
Many of you have been debating starting a blog for a while and haven’t made any real moves.
The time is now. There will not be a perfect time, idea, moment, or day for you to start.
The sooner you give up those thoughts and DECIDE to make moves and create awesomeness, the faster success will come to you.
You can get started on your blog tonight by using our step-by-step guide here:
How to Start a Successful Blog --- Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Get hosting with Bluehost for only $2.75/m:
[Note that this video/description contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on a product link, we may receive a commission in return. It's at absolutely no cost to you, and it merely helps us finance the free content that we provide.]
Mission statements should really only be reserved for non-profit organizations and places that do things like mission work, so folks know who they're potentially supporting. That's where it makes the most sense to me, anyway.
I notice a year old post, the latest one in fact, about not being able to afford hosting lol
I just want to point out how cheap hosting can be.
For most starters, you dont need a lot of space, so shared hosting on a few services can cost as little as $2-3 a month, and a domain is roughly $1 a month
An SSL certificate (becoming mandatory to be noticed these days, even if you dont have a form or payment processor on your site) is as little as less than $1 a month
To throw in a bonus. I got private email hosted by the same provider for less than $1 a month.
I chose Managed hosting, which is around $3 a month. Just a little more than shared to be honest, and is just a little nicer it seems.
My provider, Namecheap, offers effectively unlimited bandwidth and 10GB of storage for that price. Good enough for most people starting out with a personal site.
Upgrades are also cheap. I got everything through them in fact.
So my total based on yearly plans (2 years for the SSL Cert) came out to roughly $6 a month. If you cant afford that even as a college student, you wont get too far in life.
But it will give you much more than a free site builder will give you. And it is only actually $5 a month since you can keep using free email services, but I wanted to get away from those free email services honestly for personal reasons.
Also, many providers, including Namecheap offer free SSL for the first year. Namecheap currently only does this for its shared hosting service, which I didnt choose. Their Managed Hosting service is relatively new though so maybe they will offer the first free year for that down the line, but SSL basic cert is so cheap at roughly 60 cents a month so meh.
Shared hosting is also a little cheaper I think, so honestly, you can get down to $4 a month for hosting, domain, and SSL if you look.
After the first year, your website should be creating a little bit of income, enough to upgrade and still have it pay for itself if you keep it active with new content.
Thanks a whole bunch, trying to become a blogger has been somewhat overwhelming and your webinar made a lot of sense. Will definitely go and apply for the FaceBook group. Also I liked and subscribed, hope that helps in any little way.
Thank you so much for posting this information. I just took the plunge after thinking about starting a blog for so long. I did go with bluehost. My site is dedicated to women in the transition of menopause and I have a wealth of information to share so I am very passionate about it. My frustration is over the technical part of it because I am so confused with the set up, I just started and I feel like my first post is just too long so I’m editing it a lot. I’m really just stumbling through this right now and I have absolutely no idea how to work with adbsense or any of that. I’m just pushing forward and hoping things start to click haha. Thank you again this was very helpful.😃
Thank you for this! I just started my blog at www.jumpropevet.com. It's centered around achieving fitness goals through jump rope training and proper nutrition.
The point you made about Pinterest is something that I need to do. Again, thank you!
I plan to start a blog to get advertisements until I figure out my video situation with my video based website www.KapitalCity.com but even then I will continue blogging, I love to talk, joke and give opinions and advice. I'm not able to get Google Ads because of copyrights and I think its more because of the music videos. I have learned that I could mix videos to make them my own then post them but I thought I could use all videos that I find and cross on Facebook etc. I was thinking to hire to someone from Fiverr for cheap mix and post videos for me but anyway. Any Advice?
I got that after listening for a bit. I was concerned at first because it sounded like you were going to dismiss it, and that’s the one I started.
Basically, I sent that question within the first few minutes of the video.
I just started my blog last month and this was so helpful. I am so happy I have not made most of the mistakes 😁 My blog is about all things I am very passionate about, health, happiness and freedom. If anyone would like to check it out it’s secretsandbutterflykisses.com
I am so excited! I hope if anyone checks it out they will find it helpful💕
I really liked the generosity of this presentation and will revisit it. not sure it applies to me; I'm a free-lance writer and accumulated 12 carefully written and thought-out articles on Tom Petty videos and creative patterns that were reviewed during the course of an MIT sponsored on-line writers workshop. Tragedy, he's gone, and I have 2 paths; a friend who is published and won awards recommended an agent; or, I could release an article a week on blog-site, having already registered copywrite with the Library of Congress. The financial remuneration aspect is a factor but definitely not my motivation. Do you have any thoughts in this regard? It is not a finite project and there are other related critical commentaries that have evolved on related subjects.
Hey guys, im really thankful fro these tips, Im a south African and want to have fun blogging whilst being able to generate an income that will lead me into using blogging as a career option so thank you for the insight and advise
Great Video, after 4 years working on Google blogger, spending lots and lots of time, and 4 blogs later, I found WordPress and your video. Will be starting my new blog, using WordPress today. Thanks for clearing the air.
All of this is totally out of my comfort zone, so I have much to learn. I am not interested in making money, but rather in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and how wonderful God is. I'll now have to learn about Pintrest. I have a website, but very little traffic, so I want to move into blogging. What you shared was helpful. Thank you. P.S. I was born in Seattle, am a retired pastor, Bible college teacher and academic dean, and missionary, served in Sierra Leone, West Africa and the Philippines.
Hi! So are you saying to start a blog just getting started... should I not use wix websites. But is free blogs on word press okay? Or should I buy a domain. That’s what’s holding me back. Helppppp please!!!
Enjoyed your video and enthusiasm as well as tips...I hear / read from several sources that content and quality are important, and totally understand that. I appreciate that you say set a schedule and post as frequently as you can. I have been following a established couple blogs and they have posts every day--the thought of this wears me out! Think I could do three a week to start and as I grow my audience and hopefully connect with contributors, grow the number of posts...Thank you for your video, it is helping me with planning.
I often ask myself, "What would I do if I absolutely knew I could not fail?" Well blogging is on that list of things! Fear of failing is what's stopping me! But your words of wisdom have encouraged me.I going to pray about it and hopefully persevere as you have. Thanks so much
Great video Alex! You really speak my language. I'm a 48 year old husband and dad looking to start my first blog. One year ago I committed to trying to sell on Amazon, and I swore I would spend the entire year putting it together. A little bit here, a little bit there, but I NEVER gave up. I would take a break, get dis-heartened, and then climb back on. One year later I have a product that sells and I know SO MUCH about it now. Yes I will expand eventually, but blogging is my 2019 project. I will start a blog and I have NO friggin idea what I'm doing. But I will give it a year. Do a little bit here, watch videos, learn and just stay the course for a full year. I will come back for more videos and I wish you HUGE success! Thanks again.
Hi Alex! I've been following your blog and YouTube channel for quite a long time now. I have to say that it is my absolute favorite website about blogging. I follow several websites on blogging and most of them are fantastic as well. But it's your website and YT Channel that I turn to the most. You guys cover so much information about blogging and in such a organized and straight-to-the-point way. So when I have a question concerning my blog, Create-and-Go is the FIRST place I turn to because I know I will find what I'm looking for. Both of you are doing an amazing job with both your videos and blog posts! Keep up the great work, you guys! You have inspired me more than you will ever know! Thank you so much! 😁♥
Can I sign up with Bluhost through you for a year at first. Thank you for stressing on investing in yourself. Since I have been watching your videos. I spend more time now to read more, research more, and be selective about the photos I chose before preparing my blog.
What do you do if you’re not sure what your niche will be when starting a blog?
i.e. you have several different interests or experiences that you want to talk about? Is a blog the best platform for this scenario?
there is no such thing as a blog that "fails".... a blog literally cannot fail. a blog is something that a person uses to share their experiences with other people, there is no risk involved at all! so how can it "fail"??
Thank you for the info, I have been trying to start a blog and just keep trying to make sure I am doing it right before I start. This video has helped give me the confidence and information, I also subscribed here.
Thanks a lot for these tips. I also just saw a video of yours called "What is a blog" I believe and you are very informative and can see why you are making good money. I plan on checking many of the articles and resources that you talked about out and also going to your blog to take the free 7-day eCourse. Also going to subscribe to your youtube channel. So thanks a lot, and I am 61 years old. ;-) This one thing that may worry me but not enough to dive it. ;-)
I am just getting underway with creating my blog your content has been extremely helpful to me. Question: I was thinking of focusing on both Relationships and Reviews. Do you think this is a good idea or is it best to focus on only one niche?
A very helpful video. I've just published my book on Amazon 'Threshold - A Fluid Reality' and I need to start a blog. The Pinterest tip is useful, and after watching this Will probably go the Wordpress route. My book 'Threshold-A fluid Reality' is about how to think about 'Thought' without mysticism or meditation. My maxim is "Never miss a marketing opportunity!"
Thank you for being encouraging! I just kicked off my blog using Bluehost. I’m trying to figure it out so baby steps. It’s pretty intuitive so not frustrating to customize. My only reservation about blogging is that I only have stories to tell - no product to sell. I’m not so sure how I can make money this way. I’m uncertain anyone would care about what I have to say. Lol I am having fun through this creative process of writing and editing. Thx for helping a sister out! very helpful videos.
