Thats entirely up to you. Just make sure the surface beneath you provides strong support to prevent you from losing balance or being unable to fully execute these exercises properly

Basically you do not want your toes to come too far past your knee or else you will be applying unnecessary strain on your knee. Knees should be over yours without extending past the toes.

i am only talking about my experience but front and back leg muscle volume imbalance is really detrimental to my back conditions so i was disappointed not to see more non weight backside leg workout here. especially so because there are many. since i really think there is nothing better for backside leg development than deadlifts, i think you should have done more to justify suggesting a non weight leg workout.
