Creating an APA Format Annotated Bibliography

1572 ratings | 439105 views
*Please note a verbal error in this video regarding serif v. sans serif fonts. Times New Roman is a SERIF font. Arial or calibri are examples of sans serif fonts. This is a brief screencast of creating an APA format Annotated Bibliography. It includes how to locate information in an article to create an APA citation and the layout of an APA formatted annotated bibliography. Web resource: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/res...

Last, F. M., Last, F. M., & Last, F. M. (YEAR). Title only first word cap. Title of Journal in Appropriate Caps, Volume, pg-pg. doi: ############# Summary without indent.

Thank you for this video.

What if the title of the article has a proper noun in it? Then do you capitalize the proper noun?
Tyler Prior (3 months ago)
It would be nice to have audio or voice over to provide context to what is being done. For example, does a blank line go between each reference and annotation or no? Because I see both in the video and no audio makes it hard to completely discern why. Unless I'm an idiot and I missed something, which is very possible.

Thank you for some good information. However... ** What you are illustrating is the REFERENCES listing, and NOT an Annotated Bibliography. The Annotated Bibliography includes a paragraph that details the information in that source that justifies its inclusion in the paper and demonstrates how the source is used in the paper, etc... ** Also, for formatted paragraphs (outdented and indented) it is MUCH better to use Word's Styles or at least paragraph formatting to achieve the desired indentation. **For Body content of APA paper: Paragraph | Indentation | Special... First line = 0.50" | OK ** For Reference listing outdent in APA paper: Paragraph | Indentation | Special... Hanging = 0.50" | OK ... DANGER: When you break up a paragraph (by hitting "enter"), you destroy the flow of the document and introduce greater chance of error as you continue to edit your paper. If you work with "special characters revealed" (click the paragraph button from the Home ribbon in the Paragraph section, upper right corner), you will be able to see all paragraphs in your paper as well as all spaces and tab marks. It makes it MUCH easier Thanks again for your demonstration in how to find the particular elements required for APA references! You did a GREAT job!!! [Personally, I prefer to use Zotero as my free citation manager, but my reliance on it means that there are nuances of APA that I forget. sigh...]

*essay.jpg0.all-about.in* I was absolutely desperate when I started looking for a solution to my term paper catastrophe... I had not more than a week before the due date and I didn't even know where to start! I know that I should have thought about it earlier, but I didn't, which made my situation even more miserable. In any case, I was delighted when I found this site - they delivered a great paper to me. I am going to come back again!

im still confused..what exactly ar the annotations??? is it my words or is that copied and pasted?? so confused...
Charlene Lindeman (2 years ago)
I'm not 100% sure but I've been doing a lot of research on this because the APA Publication Manual 6th ed does not discuss this topic. OWL perdue says to write 2 paragraphs--not 1 like this author has. The first paragraph is to be a summary of the book and the 2nd paragraph is an evaluation of the book. I have also seen 3rd paragraphs discuss how it was applicable to the author's paper. However, on all the examples I've seen, the formatting has been different on every one.

Thank you for the "vid", very concise and clear. As a new student taking 400 level classes, my professor advised us we need to write an 8-12 page "annotated" paper. It has been more than a few years since I've written a paper like this, and the JC level classes never require it. the CSUF class does in Retirement & Financial Planning.

What do I do if I'm making an annotated bib for a book?
Pash G. (4 years ago)
Use an online bibliography generator such as bibme.org. Just select your source media, then enter publication title, select whether you want automatic or manual fill, APA format, and your citations will accumulate on the right which you can then copy/paste into your paper
Kimberly Gromack (4 years ago)
This was a good video BUT, most important, the author's name in the reference is the only thing remaining on the left. Below the reference which is always done hanging because it is an apa reference, always indent the text below the reference lining up with the second line of the reference. This is formatted incorrectly.
Itzel Dominguez (4 years ago)
I was working with annotated bibliography for the first time in college, and now I understand it properly. Thank you so much!
Aaron Widener (4 years ago)
In the text you show 2012, but your cite is 2009. Also, the number 3 should be in the citation.

I think that goes in your coversheet. Click INSERT tab in your MsOffice Ribbon and select COVER PAGE.  This will create your coversheet as page one and then the subsequent pages below your coversheet will start as page 2, 3, 4 and so forth. Hope that helps?
