Any help with this issue will be appreciated. Thanks

+William Jackson Check for the proper port number. For the port number you can either use tnsname.ora file and look for your SID or You can check port in your listner status on command prompt (lsnrctl> status ). Hope this will solve your problem
Downloaded and Installed Oracle 11g and Sql Developer as per your first two tutorials. Still I am getting ORA-12505 error while connecting from SQL Developer. Works fine when I connect form DB. Please help.
+Sonal Kumari +Manish Sharma Hi,I checked the port in listener.ora in C:\app\Praveensoni\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN this path but it is showing 1521 and I am getting the same IO Error : The Network adapter could not establish a connection.
Can you please help?

ORA- 12505 generally this error occurs when you enter a
wrong SID. So make sure your SID is correct. If you are able to login into your
oralc using Command prompt then first login as sys ( c:> / as sysdba) then
for your SID query v$instance view as select instance_name from v$instance; the
result of this query will be your SID. Use that SID while creating connection.
When I connect as SYSDBA it connects no matter what password I put in:
SQL> conn SYS/oracle(the actual password) as SYSDBA; shows me the message "connected"
but so does SQL> conn SYS/hgnkj as SYSDBA;
Is it supposed to connect if the password is wrong? I am using a local machine (I am not connected to a server)
