APA Formatting for PowerPoint: How to Apply APA Style to PowerPoint Presentations

404 ratings | 125400 views
Guidelines for APA should also be applied to PowerPoint presentations when required. Any use of outside source material must be documented on the PowerPoint slide using APA citation formats from the 6th edition. Because PowerPoint slides are mainly a visual medium, the presenter must know how APA documents elements such as images, tables, graphs, and other media with titles, notes, and APA parenthetical citations. APA style and citation formats still apply to PowerPoint slides although the citations are being using in a different medium.

What happens when I can't fit all references on the same page. Do I start the next one with the title reference or just continue listing?
David Taylor (14 days ago)
You start a new slide for the overflow, but do not repeat References at the top.

I tried to make a good content presentation for my oral exams. But now I will just abandon my creative ideas to make the presentation more attractive and dynamic for the audience cause if I have to APA cite EVERY PNG images (for icons), I m gonna kill myself...

+David Taylor thank you sir :D

Please don't kill yourself. Not every image or icon has to be cited. At the beginning of the video is a list of the things that have to be cited. Icons are not one of them. There is a difference between a figure and a decorative image. Please refer to the list at the beginning of the video.

How do you create an in-text citation and a reference for an UNLISTED YouTube video? These are videos used in lessons in modules posted for online students? I am created a report. I talk about an Introductory Video the class watches in their Module 1. It is a YouTube video; however, since it is part of a school's curriculum it is unlisted (private). Do I insert the word [Unlisted] somewhere in the in-text citation and reference?
David Taylor (2 months ago)
Esther--Use the regular APA format. No need to indicate its status. BTW, there are significant differences between "Unlisted" and "Private" settings on a YouTube video. But for APA they are not important--the URL is always provided.

This video made me want to shove a whole indian village in my anus and call for satan to end up my suffering. This guy sounds like he shoves his finger up his ass when he whipes his ass in the toilet. I also think he smells like beans!

I'll tell you what. APA is not cool. It just makes my work harder than it has to be, but thank you for this video Mr. Taylor. It really was a life saver!

I understand that APA is needed to give people credits for their work. But it's not meant to be a critical part of education on any level. It really serves no purpose to anyone for professors to nick picking APA errors on papers.

David, What about the font type and size?
David Taylor (9 months ago)
Hi, thanks for your question. For a video that is more about design, try this: https://youtu.be/20vhfI3wM_0

What about citing in the notes section?
David Taylor (11 months ago)
APA does not use a "Notes" section. It uses a system of in-text citations that refer to Reference citations, as shown.

Question: Does the title page still need a running head like reports would?
David Taylor (1 year ago)
No running header for PowerPoints.

Hope the creator of APA format is inflicted by the fleas of a thousand rats for the irritation they have caused college students.
Famished Nintendog (2 months ago)
me too. I literally have about 40 images to cite. I want to kill myself. My teacher is such a b1tch. Most don't care about citing images in powerpoint for a meaningless class presentation wtf. It's not a damn essay
parkbenchguy (3 months ago)
In my perspective, overly emphasize on APA cause focusing on the formatting rather than the content, it represents an engrained bureaucracy in academics and indicated the fall of the great U.S.A.
